Well that’s a Wrap on Reunion.

One of the loveliest and life affirming jobs I’ve had the pleasure to be involved in. The cast and crew were all just beautiful people.

Huge Thanks to Simon Gillman who took over the reigns from me; and to my amazing team of Rob Scown, Amelia Hayes and John Butterfield Elsie.

Huge Hats off to Matty, Lara, Rose, Anne-Marie, Luke, Helen and Billy.

So, last year I was lucky enough to get involved in the most amazing sound and music project that was set up by Chris Bullock and is being released by Moolakii club audio interface.

It's an album that's been pulled together in aid of Centrepoint, who are a charity aiming to eradicate youth homelessness. And there's a range of brilliant sound artists on there.

Chris' lovely idea was for sound artists to take location based sounds from the London Underground each being being based on a specific tube line, and compose a soundscape using these found sounds - the only pre requist is that the minimum of 5 location sounds must be used in the composition. So the scope could not be more open - The TFL Project

My track all started with a minature binaural headset that I used whilst commuting in London on the Jubilee line, and has ended up in progy loveliness (no surprise there I know!), expect Rush meets PSB stylings. It was incrediby good fun to do, with proper hardware sampling on my A4000 too (thank god I'd kept the manual from 1999). All based around a natural groove that was in one of the field recordings - and the fact that the tube train brakes sang at a near perfect B4...

I can't wait to hear what everyone else has put together. If you're free on Wednesday evening, come and join the listening party at 2030.

Even better, pre-order the CD of the album as well and raise some money for Centrepoint too.

Watching Stonehouse on itv.

It’s as great to watch as it was to work on. Such a lovely job, with my Ace team of Matt Gill and Luise Guertler. Keeley and Matthew are spot on, The music is superbly judged to genre, and it looks lovely - top work Mark Woolf.

And that Houses of Parliament sequence is a truely wonderful set build.

Fabulous.

I’ve only had my little audio potting shed for about 16 years now; and I’ve always had a nice (ish) duvet on the wall in the live room to deaden it a little bit.

Well; I’ve finally embraced modern technology and bought an eyelet kit so I can actually use a sound blanket. It looks positively professional, and sounds exactly the same as it did half an hour ago.

😂

I had a lovely few hours on Wednesday over at Aspect Studios. Friend of a friend etc, Andy is a really lovely bloke and he’s got a great rehearsal space, studio and Live Steaming Room over in Loughborough.

We literally talked sound and guitar nonsense for hours; it was brilliant.

New guitar practice amp doubling very nicely as a Bluetooth speaker today.

I was worried the Positive Grid spark might be a bit of a gimmick; but it’s not at all. It’s proved to be a brilliant little practice amp. The range of tones are great and the jam ( it listens to what you play) and looping functionality is just brilliant to practice with.

(And Bluetooth speaker).

Part of the studio stock take / asset list; I’ve given my old fostex pd6 a service and test. My back up, back up recorder.

Nice to see it still works. Think we last used it on a last minute car rig on the The C Word in 2014.

Nice to see it still powers up and works fine. And I bought the media all in bulk at the time!

You need much more than stunning images to make great shows – just ask the man who looks after my radio mic, says the Guardian columnist Adrian Chiles

Repairing my direct sound isolation headphones seems to be a regular occurrence….they are quite brilliant for drumming and live work, so worth it.

From 8 years ago I was designing and building the prototype for my new cart from paper.

Now the real thing, this
cart has had many years of use and regular upgrades.

Now running a Scorpio, with Mix Pre Backup controlled vis the icon desk; lectrosonics radios with Sanken Cos 11 and Betso Sharkie high gain antenna.

Still mkh 8050 on the poles today for our interiors today. Sennheiser mics all the ways really.

This cart has been through everything from the Yorkshire Hills on Jericho, The Murders at White House farm, The Moorside, the terrible events of Little Boy Blue, alternate presents with Humans, The Cobra Room (more than once), diced death with the Peaky Blinders, the horrors of Honour, and the cold calm of Des.

Bless her, and all who have sailed with her. Matt Gill Laura Clough, sarah Howe, Rob Wynne, Carys Ellis,Nicola Dale, Theo Ovonlen to name but a few. Thanks to you all.

Hmmm, I wonder what’s next..

This Amazing article by Dpa Microphones was shared by Institute of Professional Sound.

It clearly shows why lavaliers - let's ignor clothes rustle here - sound like they do; and why booming from underneath also completely compromises intelligibility. We position mics at the sternum, as it's the least worse compromise for sound, camera, costume and hair and makeup; but these mics will not sound as nice as a boom mic in the right place.

And in the same breath, I completely realise how necessary radio mics are in our working methods, and I rely on them every day on set.

Examine the benefits and consequences of different miniature microphone placements.
