Over 70 donkeys rescued in multi-agency operation find their forever home at The Donkey Sanctuary
More than 80 donkeys now have a home for life after being officially signed into the care of The Donkey Sanctuary, located near Sidmouth, marking the legal conclusion of the charity’s largest-ever UK rescue.
More than 70 donkeys were rescued from a farm in Wales in February 2021 in a complex, multi-agency operation involving the RSPCA, The Donkey Sanctuary and the police, with support from equine welfare charities.
The donkeys involved were in varying degrees of distress and were placed into the sanctuary's care.
The transfer of legal ownership to The Donkey Sanctuary this week ends almost three years of legal proceedings and means all the donkeys involved, including the foals born after the rescue, can now be assured of a safe home for life ♥
Here they are on the day they were rescued... (video provided by The Donkey Sanctuary)
Frozen treats at the Donkey Sanctuary
Donkeys living at Woods Farm, near the Donkey Sanctuary's headquarters, have been cooling off with frozen treats during this spell of hot weather 🥵
The ‘lollipops’ also provide a valuable form of enrichment for the donkeys and encourage their natural foraging behaviour.
They're made using a variety of ingredients such as grated apples in ice, flavoured tea or cordial, and hazel leaves and apples.
