Friday 6th June is a sad day for UK radio. The last of the local presenters will present their final shows. The majority of the industry is now networked, and most shows are presented by 'celebrities'.
Carl Spencer messaged me from Fuerteventura tonight saying 'Maybe you should post your poem!"
I'd completely forgotten about my poem. I wrote it in Tenerife a couple of days after I'd handed in my notice at Hits Radio. I was unhappy, disillusioned with the industry and just not enjoying my job anymore. I only sent it to friends at the time but I may as well stick it on here now ...

RADIO, MY LOVE (April 2019)
Radio, my love, it's been 24 years!
24 years of fun, sweat and tears.
18 when I started and so full of ambition
Making it to the top my sole purpose and mission
Loving the music and living the brands
Interviewing popstars and favourite bands
Moving city to city to follow the dream
So hungry to learn and so keen to succeed
But radio, my love, you have changed so much!
By suited men who think they're still 'in touch'
'Talk up the music and no personality'
Short links, same songs, I"M LOSING MY SANITY!!
So sad to say, you're just not the same
It's the fault of others. You're not to blame
Parting ways will leave such a huge gaping hole
But I just can't face another crunch'n'roll .....
