Today's Explore Your Archive Focus Week theme is Unique. We think that our name 'The Devil's Porridge Museum' is pretty unique!

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (the author of Sherlock Holmes) coined the term 'devil's porridge' when he saw the munition workers at World War One, munitions factory, H.M. Factory Gretna working at the nitrating pans like in the photo. He thought the lumpy white substance they were mixing looked like porridge, but of the devilish variety!

We're proud to share the story of H.M. Factory Gretna and the people who worked their at The Devil's Porridge Museum.

Broughton House by Candlelight is Back! Following the success of our recent Halloween event at Broughton House & Garden NTS, we're delighted to confirm our first 2024 date - Wednesday 31st January at 7:30pm!

Broughton House guides will present a candlelit tour of the home of Glasgow Boy and cornerstone of the Kirkcudbright art scene E.A Hornel.

Guests can then look forward to a collection of dark and sinister tales of Kirkcudbright and old Galloway by the Mostly Ghostly team!

Prepare for a long read... 👀🗯️🎅🚜🚛

Well everyone, the night after THEE Christmas tractor and truck run 2023 🚜🚚🎄.

Total amount raised? We've not put it all together yet but the go fund me is sitting just over £6.5k & something around £6.3k between last weekend and last nights road run. We still have moneys coming in and go fund me still going strong so we will leave this open for time being as such times it's starts to quietening down.

To all that helped from my family & friends and The RH Youth Organisation + everyone else who came and just mucked in thank you from every part of my heart and soul for helping in each and every single way. There has been alot of stress behind all of this and months & months of planning but for everyone to pitch in and take weight where ever they could is incredible.

A special thanks to my mum and dad who in recent months have both been diagnosed with cancer, mums being stage 4 been through a serious operation lots of hard recovery time yet has still recovered to help with all the behind the scenes sorting all the IT & paper side of things such as flyers, posters, making Keyrings , my emotional support and kick up the back side to keep me going. You're support has meant the most to me and I wanted this run to be extra special just for you as this run means alot to you . So thanks again Carolyne Muir we love and appreciate everything you do so we DEDICATE this run to you!

To all the public who has supported us throughout coming and speaking to us, donating playing our games taking pictures, videos ect but standing out in the freezing cold ❄️ to support and cheer us on THANK YOU again from every part of my heart and soul!
