Thirty six years ago tomorrow night I was sitting having dinner with my wife and her parents when a news flash announced that a plane had gone down near Lockerbie. As you do when you’re a press photographer you grab your gear and head to where the news is happening. The sights that beheld us that night and days after will live with me always. Life is so precious, fleeting and fragile. Thinking of all those on PanAm flight 103 and those in Lockerbie who lost their lives that night and the families who still grieve all these years later.

First Saturday in December so it must be the Lord Provost of Glasgow Baby's First Christmas Party. I've been privileged to provide the photography for this for the last 15 years and it really is a day that heralds in Christmas. Thank you to the Lord Provost for being so good with all the babies and a huge thanks to all my team for the support they provide and for keeping me sane (relatively) on the day!

Great to be working with the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and Hollywood actress Kate Dickie recently. Kate has been named a patron of the Junior Conservatoire of Drama, Production and Film and will work with the students providing advice and support. Kate, a well known face to Game of Throne fans and the MCU's Loki, studied Dramatic Studies before graduating in 1993. She received an honorary doctorate from RCS in 2023 for services to drama.

Some 37 years since I started as a staff photographer for the Glasgow Evening Times, and 15 years since I left the newspaper world, I still get a kick out of seeing one of my pictures used as a cover shot in today's paper.

Like many I was staggered to hear of Sir Chris Hoy's terminal cancer diagnosis. I am however in awe of his positivity and resilience following that devastating news, qualities that have defined his life and career. The grace he has shown after being told that he has between 2-4 years to live was followed by the news that his lovely wife, Sarra, was diagnosed with an aggressive form of MS. I've met and photographed Sir Chris many times and he is genuinely what you see; an amazing athlete, a nice guy, a good man. Why does thing like this happen to nice people like Chris and his wife - why not me? Would be his answer. I wish Chris, Sarra and their family much happiness in whatever time they have remaining and pray that is longer than what the doctors say.

Like him or loath him Alex Salmond was a political heavyweight and a force to be reckoned with compared to the leaders and members of other political parties. Hi untimely death at only 69 is a tragedy for his family and a great loss to the independence movement.

It seems that the Gallagher brothers, Liam and Noel, have kissed and made up and will reform Oasis for live gigs next year. Here's a couple of pictures from when they last 'kissed and made up' at Balloch Park on Loch Lomond in 1996.

Some students receiving their exam results today will be disappointed and feel that they haven't achieved their full potential. However they should remember that there are often other roads to success. I shot pictures yesterday for the launch of the Skills Development Scotland Results Helpline. Reunited for the pictures was student Louise Davidson-Clyne and SDS careers adviser Maxine Scott. Maxine supported Louise to get into her dream photography course when the 18 year old called the Results Helpline last year. Former West Calder High pupil Louise struggled at school because of dyslexia and wasn’t expecting top grades from S6 exams. As Boxer Muhammad Ali once said "You don't lose if you get knocked down; you lose if you stay down."
