An early start yesterday morning to photograph a Poppy decorated Avanti West Coast train begin its journey to London. Stopping at 13 stations along the route, veterans who work for Avanti West Coast and Royal British Legion (RBL) supporters will greet the train and present posies of poppies which will be added to a unique wreath which will feature in the Remembrance Day commemorations in London. Thanks to Nikon and their brilliant products it looks like these pictures were taken in daylight, the reality was at 7.30am the exposure was 1/30 sec @ f4 at 3200 ISO - or Dark O'clock as we call it!

As they say, it’s not about where you begin, but where you end up! So, when we’re shooting corporate portraits on location, the spot might not be ideal. That’s where a good photographer steps in, lighting the subject and background in a way that makes everyone look their absolute best, even if the location isn’t ideal. Check out my setup from a recent portrait session with the amazing staff at Foundation Solutions HV Limited and the finished photographs ready for their website and corporate brochures.

Some students receiving their exam results today will be disappointed and feel that they haven't achieved their full potential. However they should remember that there are often other roads to success. I shot pictures recently for the launch of the Skills Development Scotland Results Helpline:

A Cumnock Ladies footballer is urging youngsters to call for support if they need it when receiving their exam results. Teenager Courtney McLaughlin called the SDS Results Helpline last August to get advice about her SQA results. Courtney, 17, didn’t get the National 5 grades she had hoped for in English and History and thought it was a major setback in her career plans.

The Kilmarnock Academy pupil said: “I was so upset when I opened my results that I started crying and called the results helpline for help.

“The adviser calmed me down and made me feel much better through our conversation. I was able to see that it was not the end of the world and that I still had options.

"They advised me to speak to my teacher, who reassured me that I could re-take those subjects in fifth year, if I wanted.”

After calling the helpline, Courtney continued to get support from her school careers advisers.

Good luck to Oasis tonight as the kick off their reunion tour. Glad they kissed and made up, just like they did here in these pictures I took at their Loch Lomond gig back in 1996.

I had a wonderful night covering Francis Cummings surprise concert and party to mark his retirement. The evening's music was quite magical with Nicola Benedetti playing Shostakovich Gadfly and the choir singing Billy Joel's 'And so it goes' - two spine tingling performances in an evening of beautiful music. Happy Retirement Francis - you 'riding off into the sunset' is one picture that we haven't shown here but made everyone laugh!
