This Saturday, March 8th, marks International Women's Day, a day dedicated to celebrating the remarkable social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women worldwide. While many women have made significant contributions in high-profile roles, such as science, politics, and the arts, there are countless others working in unsung roles, providing essential services that go unnoticed.
For instance, a few years ago, I had the privilege of photographing a team of dedicated domestic services workers from the Royal Infirmary in Glasgow. These individuals had voluntarily worked over their lunch breaks and even came in on multiple weekends to reopen wards that had been closed due to infection as swiftly and effectively as possible. Their commitment to their duties extended far beyond the call of duty.
I also reflect on the countless vital NHS staff who worked tirelessly during the challenging COVID-19 pandemic. While not all women will receive Nobel Awards, their daily contributions are equally important and indispensable to our society. Without their dedication and hard work, our world would come to a grinding halt. International Women's Day
