Currently going through all the work I've produced as a writer, interviewer and video content producer I came across this blast from the past - my first Fighting Spirit Film Festival: All Action Martial Arts event. I took a bit of leap with this one as I had the idea of going there to get as many interviews as possible, and record whatever was going on - all on my phone that rested on a stand. I had no idea how I was going to do it.

Funny side story - I had nothing on the stand that would hold the phone in place and so I ran across to a phone accessory shop where the owner sold me a selfie stick and said the clamp could be unscrewed should fit my camera stand. And he was right - best fiver I spent.

Anyway. It was the first time I had done anything like this before. It was also the first Fighting Spirit short film competition. I had a plan in my head on what I was aiming for but that was it. I spent much of the day pointing my phone in all directions, spoke to loads of people, pulled questions out of my head - think I did get to watch a film or two - and just kept filming. The result, after hours of pouring through all the footage and playing around with a video editor I never used I put together 3 interview features, 1 highlight reel of the day, and this feature of the short film awards presentation. Of all the work I've done I'm most proud of this one. Something about it always makes me smile. It features some of my best editing and film work though in hindsight I wish I'd filmed from a different position.

It kickstarted for me another outlet I could use to capture moments and tell stories. I also made a bunch of great friends that day. Why am I posting this? Mainly as a reminder to take chances once in a while, listen to instincts, try new things but most importantly that I'm capable of more than I give myself credit for. If you believe it, you can achieve it.
