The answer is they are both banned hashtags. ❌

You may have heard of them, but do you know what they are? Banned hashtags are those that have been reported by users for not following Instagram's guidelines. If you use any of these hashtags, your post will be hidden, which can could affect your reach slightly if you use a few in your hashtag strategy.

Now, here's the tricky part: banned hashtags are constantly changing! They're based on community reports and Instagram's investigations. Unfortunately, Instagram doesn't publish a list of the currently banned hashtags, because that would be too convenient!😉 But don't worry, you can always manually search for them or look for recently updated blogs on the topic. (Check out the example of a banned hashtag flag in the swipe!)

Some of the hashtags that are banned may come as a surprise. For instance, did you know that #'beautyblogger is banned? Sometimes, similar hashtags are still okay to use. In the case of beautyblogger, you can use (with an "s" on the end) without any issues.

So, did you learn something new today? Remember to always keep an eye out for those banned hashtags and keep your posts in line with Instagram's guidelines.

There has been a lot of speculation and rumour that Instagram would punish users for using too many hashtags.

This is a MYTH. ❌

In fact, Instagram allows users to include up to 30 hashtags on each post so would not penalise you for just utilising the space.

That being said, it's important to use hashtags that are relevant to your content. Don't use popular hashtags just for the sake of it instead, use hashtags that accurately describe your content and are likely to be searched by users who are interested in your niche.

Insta Bio Optimisation – 5-minute task 🪩

Grab a brew and open your business or creator Insta account and make sure you are fully optimised and getting the most out of your bio.

📛Name –include what customers may search for as this is searchable. What service do you offer? What products do you sell?

🛒 Category – if you have a business account you can select a category for your business.

🧍 Bio- Who are you, why should people follow you. Opening times are helpful but tell us more.

📧Call to action – Make it clear – is it to sign up to a mailing list? DM for more info?

📍Location - another bonus of a business account. This could be a clickable link right to your door.

Now how’s it looking?

In today's digital age, social media has become an integral part of our lives. However, it is important to take regular breaks from social media to maintain a healthy work-life balance. ⚖️

Taking regular social media breaks has numerous benefits and It is essential to remember that social media is meant to be a fun and social platform. It is not healthy to overthink if a post doesn't do well or if you haven't gone viral over night.

Businesses often get caught up in the numbers game, focusing on gaining a large following rather than building an engaged community. A small engaged community can be just as effective as a large following.

Building a community takes time and effort, but the rewards are long-lasting. Hey just look at us! Over 10 years in the game!😃

Are you feeling a little lost in the Instagram world lately? Don't worry, we've got you covered!

Let's go back to basics, talk about the different formats available and how to use them.

🎠First up, carousels! This format allows you to showcase multiple images or videos in one post. Use it to tell a story, share tips, or display before and after shots. Get creative and mix it up with images and video. You can have up to 10 slides.

🎞️ Next, we have reels! The possibilities are endless with this format, so let your imagination run wild. Use video to follow the trends and provide entertainment to your followers. Max length is 90 seconds but shorter reels often perform best.

📷 We can’t leave out good old-fashioned images. While it may seem basic, a well-curated feed of stunning images can be just as effective in attracting followers. Play with different filters, angles, and lighting to make your photos stand out.

📱Finally, Instagram stories are the perfect way to showcase your business's personality, and as they have a short shelf live you can be raw and authentic. Another great benefit of using Instagram stories is the ability to engage with your audience in real-time. With features like polls, quizzes, and questions, you can get valuable feedback from your followers and create a sense of community around your brand. By responding to comments and messages, you can build meaningful relationships with your audience and turn them into loyal customers.

📈Mix it up and use all formats in your strategy - after some time you can head to analytics and see what format your audiences responds best to and tweak your strategy accordingly!

Here's a tip for you: think of a sandwich. 🥪 (mmm think we need a trip to Rise)

You don't just buy a sandwich on a whim, right? No way! You buy it because you're hungry and it's the perfect solution to that problem. So, when it comes to your brand, think about how you can solve your customers' problems and provide them with the perfect solution. 😋

Now, when it comes to your content, remember the 60/40 rule. 60% of your content should be all about telling your story and why your customers should choose you over your competitors. And the other 40%? SELL SELL SELL! Don't be afraid to show off what you've got and convince your audience that you're the best. 💪

Have you heard that hashtags are dead? Are you questioning whether they should be in your strategy at all?

Well, we're here to tell you that's just not true! Hashtags are still incredibly useful for getting your content seen by the right people - their use has just changed slightly.

Using hashtags makes it easier for people to find your content when they search for specific topics. It's like putting your content in a specific category so that it's easier to find.

So, don't let anyone tell you that hashtags are dead. They're still a valuable tool for getting your content seen and connecting with others.

Are you still using hashtags? 👇

Instagram has recently rolled out a new feature called "Broadcasts". 🔊

A new way for creators to deepen connections with followers...or just just fill the space with unwanted noise?

With options such as text, photo, video and voice notes creators can now effortlessly share their latest updates and behind-the-scenes moments to those who have ‘opted in’. Additionally, creators can even create polls to gather feedback from their fans. While only creators can send messages, followers can react to content and participate in polls by casting their votes.

We know Instagram is the Aldi of social channels and this feature feels like their take on the app ‘Telegram’ 📱

Jurys still out for us....would love to know your thoughts! 👇

Don't Be Late to the Party 🎉

Are you still not using SEO on Instagram? You have probably heard the term when it comes to websites but what does it mean for Insta? Insta SEO is the process of optimising your profile through keywords to improve visibility.

Here are our top tips on how to optimise...

🎉 Add keywords to your handle: we have spoken about this one before! An easy way to boost your visibility is by adding keywords to your Insta name!

🎉 Incorporate 3-5 relevant keywords in your caption. This strategy assists Instagram in identifying the appropriate audience for your content on the explore page. However, ensure not to go overboard with the keywords!

🎉 Add Keywords to your HASHTAGS (no they are not dead - we will do another post for that) Instagram cleared this up last year that hashtags should go in the CAPTION. When choosing your hashtags use descriptive words to tell Instagram what your content is about to help the algorithm categorise.

So don't be fashionably late to the SEO party....

Allowing users to discover new content outside of their friendship circle and the accounts they follow.

Understanding how it works can help you think about what content you want to create for your audience….

1. Insta defines a set of posts to rank by finding photos and videos you have interested in. They do this by looking at what historically, you have liked, saved and commented on.

2. They then look at who else likes the same content, and then what other accounts those people are interested in.

3. Once they have found content you may be interested in, insta will then order them based on how interested you may be in each piece. To predict this they look at the most important signals from you which include, what you have liked, saved and shared.

Remember you won’t see anything from your friends in explore – all content will be from new people and accounts that Instagram think you would like to discover.

Just your daily reminder to remember that social is social!

It's easy to get caught up in the numbers game and feel like you're constantly struggling to keep up. But let's take a step back and remember why you started on this social media journey in the first place.

Social media is a powerful tool that allows us to connect with others, share our passions and experiences, and build a community. Instead of focusing solely on the end goal of likes and followers, let's enjoy the process of creating content, engaging with others, and discovering new things.

Social media can be compared to painting a picture in many ways. Just like painting, social media allows us to express ourselves creatively and share our work with others.

When we paint, we choose our colours and brush strokes carefully to create a certain effect. Similarly, on social media, we carefully select the words, images, and videos we share to create an impact on our audience. 🎨

Behind the scenes your ads are made up of a careful blend of testing and analytics. 🧪

We have had brief summer holiday hiatus on our own channels (it’s okay to take a break) but we are back for Q4 to share our tips and tricks behind the art & science of Social Media!

New features for Creators! 💸

Instagram have added more ways that creators can earn money across the Metaverse.

Here’s what we know so far 👇

Creator marketplace – Soon to begin testing! This will be a new place within the app where brands and creators can more easily build partnerships. Brands will be able to discover and collaborate with creators (and vice versa) through the Meta Business suite using filters based on demographics and interests.

Reel improvements – proactively cross post your reels to Facebook. This will allow you access to Facebooks monetization tools.

NFT test- expanding test on digital collectibles.

No Fees – Instagram have said they will extend their commitment to NOT take fees on subscriptions, badges and paid online events until January 1st 2024.

This is just the start…..

Yesterday, Instagram launched 2 new chronological views for your feed! Following and favourites! The idea is to give the user more control over what they are seeing in the app. The update is optional so you don’t have to change to a chronological feed if you don’t want to!

Great for the user but where does that leave businesses? Well a key is going to be how to you get a customer to add you to their faves so they are guaranteed to see your content so now more than ever it is all about creating VALUABLE CONTENT.

🥼 Top tip from over in the Huddle Lab. If you are running any incentives like sharing discount codes – be sure to post on Insta first so your community are not going to want to miss out.

Will you be switching to one of the new chronological feeds? Let us know which one below 👇

That’s right! 🙌

According to Instagram your Feed and Stories are a social space where people want to see content from those they are closest to (unlike Explore where it’s all about discovering new things) so Instagram’s algorithms work to show you content from your friends and people you follow 🧑‍🤝‍🧑

So, what are the signals that the algorithms are looking for… 👇

1. Information about the post - First Insta looks at how popular the post is by assessing how many people have liked the content, before then looking at more generic post information such as its location, when it was posted and how long it is, if it’s a video 🎥

2. Information about the postee (we just made that word up let’s roll with it 😂). Now Insta want to look at who the person/account behind the post is, so they can get a sense for how interesting that ‘postee’ may be to you! Insta will look at how people have interacted with that person in the past few weeks.

3. Information about YOU 😍 - this is all about getting to know you and what kind of content you regularly engage with so that the algorithm can determine whether you may be interested in this type of post.

4. Information about your history of interacting with someone – finally the algorithm wants to know how interested you are in seeing posts from a particular person. Do you like, share and comment on each other’s content? 🤔

📢 Brands! This is why building a community and producing content that is valuable to them is important. If a person is following you and engaging with your content then the algorithm will get the signals that the user wants to see more from you!

There is of course the exception of ads that show up in this space – but the majority of what you see will be from those you follow 👌
