Our September cover muse @alanamariaxo was so much fun on set!
It was smiles all round as the creative team got to reinvent box braids (shout colour 613) and take her 90s image to a whole new level. Plus, we got to know the singer a little bit more by finding out what keeps her grounded and why she uses TikTok.

Power duo @prinnyrae and @amberleaux call out brands and raise issues within fashion and black culture on their weekly Her Style Secrets podcast.
When it came to matters like #cancelculture they told us: "Cancel culture is necessary to hold brands to account but the problem with cancel culture in this day and age is that people quickly forget and continue supporting and buying from brands that they had previously cancelled momentarily. This makes it difficult for brands to take accountability and respond in an authentic way because they know that they just have to do a few performative things to tick boxes to regain support from consumers."

Ed's comment
"For those who know me professionally and personally know that I'm a behind the scenes person, but in light of what's going on with #blacklivesmatter, I'm compelled to use my position and voice to speak up on what's going on, particularly in the hair and beauty industry.
In recent days brands have rallied online to show their support for the cause – OK that's great – but I say to their CEOs this is not another trend for you to capitalise on. This is not about getting your algorithm up or paying lip service.
Being diverse and inclusive in the truest sense of the word means delving deep and therefore repping every day of the week, month and year. Because being black isn't something we pick up and put down!
#dobetter applies to us all. It's not a one sided rule. So for example where companies can hire more black people, we can support black owned businesses. Where hair brands need to show 4 a to c hair types when talking about 'curls', we can tell our sisters how beautiful their 4 a to c hair is.
Times are changing and from change comes growth. At Spell we will continue to rep, champion, support and give a platform to all brands and people as well as push the boundaries for black excellence."
