Pighog

Pighog Groundbreaking experiences of the written and spoken word. http://www.pighog.co.uk/ www.twitter.co Poetry lies at the heart of everything we do.

We surprise our readers, helping them to discover excitingly talented authors and poets. Founded in 2002, Pighog is an award-winning publisher based in Brighton, England. We publish original work from a diverse range of regional, national and international voices. We are known for discovering new talent and for our unique and distinctive publications. Our aim is to present high quality work throug

h high quality presentation - in print, online and live. From over 120 entries Sarah Jackson's Milk was shortlisted for the prestigious Michael Marks Poetry Award for an outstanding work of poetry published in pamphlet form in the UK during 2008. We were shortlisted for both the Publisher and Pamphlet Awards in 2012 and the Publisher Award in 2013. We have also won a Poetry Book Society Pamphlet Choice Award for Lorna Thorpe's Dancing to Motown. Our approach is eclectic. We do not back any particular literary ideology but prefer to offer our readers a stimulating choice of well-made work. Our artistic eclecticism is complemented by our dedication to regional voices. Our Sussex Series has brought attention to a group of writers who have been termed the 'Beach Generation'. We are now developing a series devoted to poets from Munster in Ireland. We have international connections with authors, poets, publishers and organisations in Canada, India, Ireland, Jamaica, Scandinavia, Slovenia, Spain and the USA. We also publish fiction and documentary writing. A Man Against a Background of Flames by Paul Hoggart was launched on Kindle earlier this year, and the print edition is now available in all good bookshops. We will be launching our new Professional Series of handbooks and guides in March 2014. In partnership with one of Britain's leading poetry organisations, The Poetry School, we launched the Poetry School Pighog Poetry Pamphlet Competition. The winning entry in 2013 was Kate White's The Old Madness, now available in our online bookshop. The 2014 Competition is now open for entries with a deadline for initial entries of 31 January 2014. The Pighog Poetry Film Competition was launched in July 2013 with a deadline of 31 December 2013.
