Does anyone else feel like late November has it's own kind of chaos?
The to-do lists get longer.
The days get darker.
Black Friday pings start multiplying.
And suddenly you’re trying to keep the house, the kids, the work, the life
all moving in roughly the right direction.

Every year I think, “Next November I’ll be more organised.”
And every year I’m reminded that life doesn’t really care about my plans.

Running a business at this time of year feels a bit like doing the big shop while hungry -everything feels urgent, but half of it doesn’t actually matter.

What does seem to matter is giving yourself a bit of grace and remembering that you can’t do it all at once. No one can. Not even the people who look like they’re absolutely nailing it on LinkedIn. (Don't forget social media is lots of smoke and mirrors)

So if your brain is fried, your inbox is wild, your kids need a hundred different things, and you’re living off cups of tea you forgot you made
 you’re not on your own.

Here’s the question I’m asking myself this week:
What’s the one thing I can actually manage, and what can wait without the world falling apart?

I dont have my answer quite yet , if you’ve found your answer, tell me

This month marks six years since I went all-in on being self-employed
which feels absolutely mental to say out loud. đŸ€Ż

And here’s me being totally honest:
I still have those days where I think,
“Should I just go and get a proper job?”
(A payslip and an office kitchen, and another adult to chat wiht over a tea break does sound appealing some weeks
)

But then I remember everything that’s gone into getting here- the client work, the content, the invoices, the mum life, the “where’s my football top?!” chaos- all done by me.

And I still wouldn’t give up the flexibility.
Being able to nip out when I need to, juggle the kids, take a random day off when life decides to be life
 that’s priceless.

The boys might be older now (prelims incoming 😬), but their needs haven’t magically disappeared. Mum guilt honestly has no expiry date.

And the funniest part?
You’d think after six years I’d have some big, profound business lesson to share.

Nope.
Still learning.
Still winging it.
Still Googling “is this deductible?” like it’s my full-time job.
Still figuring out the whole business AND life combo.

Everyone’s already posting their shiny “2025 reflections” and “Q1 planning” stuff
not me. I wont be looking at that til January,

It’s dark, everyone’s skint, the motivation is hibernating and everyone’s living off leftover Quality Street-and I’ve got a holiday booked anyway. My only plan for January is to keep my clients ticking over and enjoy the break.

So tell me

What’s one thing you learned about yourself or your business this year?
Big, small, funny, serious- anything.

Pop it in the comments or DM me, I genuinely love hearing your stories

Consistency beats perfection every time. You decide what that consistency looks like - what can you commit to week in week out for your posting schedule. That might be 2 or 3 posts a week- which is ideal, show up, week after week - not just when you’re quiet/ launching something / selling something.

This is a better way to grow your community on social. I’ve seen accounts I follow who’ve not posted to their grid since August or September - stories are good but they only line for 24 hours to existing followers .

So this is your reminder - consistent posting is better than that 1 perfectly polished massively edited fancy reel.
Post the damn thing.

SIMPLE - it's easy to forget when work life gets busy some of the simple things so I'm going to remind you.
When you post a story on your Instagram account that's great- you're showing up to your existing audience BUT that won't find any new customers, AND it only lives there for 24 hours.
When you post to your grid- a reel, a carousel or a static image post- you could be found by new followers, maybe because your content resonates with them and the platform suggest it, it could be because someone shares your post (they can't share a story unless they're tagged in it) , or because they have been searching for someone like you.

So this is the reminder to post to your grid- what to post?- a top tip, a testimonial, a client story, a new or bestselling service or product.
The person who sees your post today might be client or customer of the future but if they can't see you they can't buy from you.

Not sure what’s muddier sometimes -the pitch or the back seat of my car.

This season I’ve sponsored the Dumbarton FC U13s -my boy’s team. They’re a new bunch, still finding their rhythm, but honestly, it’s brilliant seeing them make pals and build confidence (even if it means standing in the rain most weekends).

They’ve only gone and made it to Aberdeen for the next round of the Scottish Cup, which sounds exciting until you realise how far Aberdeen actually is and how cold it’ll be at the end of November .

It’s a small thing, but I’m chuffed to see the Clydeside Social logo on their tracksuit tops. Not for promo , just because it feels good to support something local.

It’s November 10th- if you’ve not thought about your Black Friday strategy yet
you’re a little late to the party. But it’s not too late. Here’s what I’d do right now to make the most of it on social.

1. Create a schedule- get your posts planned for the next 2-3 weeks so you’re not scrambling when things get busy.
2. Get your offer clear- what it is, who it’s for, how to buy.
3. Check your customer journey- Test your links, make sure your checkout’s smooth, and fix anything clunky. Make buying easy.
4. Bring your channels together- email your list, or create a quick DM automation for your code/offer/link. Social should drive traffic, not sit on its own island.
And if you were thinking of trying ads for the very first time - skip it this round. Stick to organic, test your message, and plan properly for next year.

You’ve still got time to make an impact. Keep it simple, clear, and consistent, and if you’re stuck for content ideas, DM me and I’ll send a few your way.

In a recent podacast I heard that less than 1% of creators on Instagram, (that just means you post over there), are using DM automation. Which means 99% of people are missing out on:
automatic replies to FAQs
instant links to freebies or booking pages
welcoming new followers without lifting a finger

Also just to get rid of a few rumours- Manychat is allowed to be used on Instagram, it can be authentic, it doesn't need to be spammy- you set it up when you want to use it, it's not that techy- if you can create a reel and send an email you can do this. You could do all the message sending yourself but do you want your potential cusotmers to wait AND spend more time on your phone? It's too expensive - it costs me around ÂŁ12 a month- one sale more than covers that, plus the time saved.

So if you're NOT using it what is stopping you?

If I had a pound for every time someone said to me “I’ll start posting again when things calm down,” I’d be running Meta ads from my own superyacht.
But spoiler alert
life never really calms down, does it?
Post the thing. Say the thing. Schedule. Keep showing up -even if it’s not perfect.
That’s how you stay top of mind (and actually get results).

What if I told you
you don’t need new ideas every week? Sounds good? New ideas are exhausting.
Some of your best-performing posts deserve to be seen again, your audience changes, what they are looking for changes, the algorithm changes, and not everyone saw it the first time!

So yes, you can post the same tip again. Tweak the image, update the hook, maybe record it as a Reel this time or turn it into a carousel. Evergreen content keeps your feed consistent (and your sanity intact). Let me know if you try it.

This image is AI
but I definitely look scarier in real life- especially when I’ve got 47 tabs open and a brain full of lists.
It’s that time of year when everything starts to blur together, geting client cmapaigns planned out and tied up for the end of the year, making time to plan next year, keeping on top of all the platform updates and changes...all while trying to order a Halloween costume that's sold out and Amazon Prime says delivery Nov 1st, and Mariah is slowly defrosting over on Insta ready to belt out that Christmas song in under 24 hours.....and every family member has a birthday in November..

Tell me I'm not alone does your to-do list look truly terrifying too?đŸ‘»đŸ’€

My story

Hi I’m Angela the voice behind Clydeside Social.

In 2018 in this ever changing fast paced world I found myself concerned for the stability of my career in retail management. My future seemed uncertain as the high street dwindles around us. I decided to find an opportunity that would re ignite my passion for learning and helping others and signed up for the Diploma in strategic social media management with the accredited Digital Mums. 11 months later I am starting out as a freelance social media manager after running @ClydesideStyle a grass roots social media campaign.

Clydeside Social is born ..... I offer a range of services from social media management, blog writing to training and everything in between. I am passionate about helping businesses succeed in their Social media. Here you will find tips and links to how to improve your business’ social media platforms, as well as a few motivational quotes- because lets face it we all need that (and cake!).

If you want to chat about how I might be able to help with your Social media then get in touch, I may just be what your business needs.
