Had the pleasure of meeting with the guys from to talk through the Sepia platform today. Very constructive talks about how it can best be integrated into the studio environment and workflow. Had to remove some modules from the rack, but the two modules I can show you sounded great. Digitally recallable hardware is certainly going to be the future of audio.

This EQ is one of my favourite EQs and you will see why when you listen to the audio examples. One of the best low ends I have heard in an EQ as well as one of the sweetest high ends ever created going all the way up to 51k.

In this video I discuss why I am getting bored with plugins. I can't be alone here when I say it has been quite some time since a plugin really excited me. Every EQ just seems to be another EQ with a different GUI. They seem to all sound the same. There's currently no huge advancements in the world of plugins. Has plugin development reach the top and new advancements require a new developer tool. Or a new format and increases a plugins ability. #audioanimals #plugins #audioplugin

In this video I discuss why I have 8 different EQs in my mastering chain. The answer is simple, I will use specific EQs for specific purposes. Some EQs are better for some things and other EQs are better for other things. I've not found one EQ that can do it all. Certain EQs have a certain sound. Some EQs will have a beautiful low end but another EQ will have a better high end. By having multiple EQs you can pick which is best for the track.

One of the best decisions I ever made was to take our studio 100% online and offer non attended sessions booked via a website. Streamlining the process and creating an affordable service attended studios couldn't compete with. Attended sessions on average take 3 times longer, which the client is ultimately charged for. Even top engineers get it wrong sometimes. Half the reason why some engineers atmos mixes playback terribly on streaming platforms is because they don't monitor binaural playback. It's so important. You can get an atmos mix to sound incredible on an atmos system, but 99% of people are streaming the mix back in binaural or through the Apple codec. In business, I feel it is very important to always have an affordable rate for clients who are on a limited budget. Dolby Atmos mixing shouldn't just be accessible for clients with big budgets. When I fitted my first atmos studio, I had so many owners of other studios telling me I had to charge a certain rate. I considered this but decided against it. When installing a Dolby Atmos system, your surround and ceiling speakers are equally as important as your speakers upfront. Try not to put inferior speakers in your surrounds. You'll find you won't want to process sounds in these speakers as they don't sound the same quality as your mains. Bass management and a Trinnov will massively help.
