If you’re visiting our little corner of Leicestershire, then I certainly recommend a visit to White Dove Gallery in Shenton. It’s a lovely local art gallery run by genial husband and wife team Tim and Lorraine who provide a wonderful showcase for local artists to display their artwork. There are paintings, pottery, needlework, woodwork and jewellery. It’s hard to resist the to buy something! If you need a break from the browsing, you can enjoy coffee and cake in the little tearoom in the gallery. White Dove Gallery is open on the first weekend of each month and is well worth a visit.

👋🏾 Hi, Happy New Year!

I can’t believe it’s 2025 - a quarter of the way through the century already and a significant year for me as I’ll be 60 in May! Yep, I can’t quite believe I’ve been on this planet for 6 decades. Wow!

💭 With experience comes wisdom, and one thing I’ve got wise to since I started running my business, 7 years ago now, is to keep doing the things that are working.

That’s why I’ve been consistently rattling on about is the importance of having a personal brand.

I truly believe in this being one of the most powerful ways to attract your ideal client. Using your uniqueness and individuality to stand out from your competitors, build connections with your followers and show them you have the solution to their problems can be a game changer for your business.

I owe a lot to my personal brand enabling me to stand out in my own terms from the multitude of divisive media marketers. I’ve never felt I have to be like someone else or copy their ideas, because I have confidence in my uniqueness, experience and ideas.

My Dad was born on 22nd Dec 1924.
He would have been 100 today.

I only saw the first photo of him when I went to Mauritius in the summer. 🇲🇺

I barely know anything about his life as a young man there. He was in the army and he also worked in the police and as a prisoner officer.

He also liked to look smart and enjoyed a drink and a cigarette.

He came to the UK in the early 60s and his life was very tough as an outsider, an immigrant.

I’m not sure why he came to the UK (he never talked about his life) but he did all kinds of jobs and worked hard for us, his family.

Like many of his generation, he struggled with modern life in the UK and goodness knows what he would have made of digital tech…and Instagram!

❤️ Anyway, I wanted to put Dad’s 100th birthday on my grid. I treasure every photo I have of him. He passed away in 2004 but he’ll always be with me, on my IG and in my heart.

I made a conscious decision to focus on LinkedIn in 2018 after I finished my social media marketing training and since then I’ve been on there pretty much every day. Yes!

As a result, I’ve steadily grown my LinkedIn community at a pace that I am pleased with. I always say LinkedIn isn’t a sprint to the finish line. 🚫🏃🏽‍♀️

I’m grateful to be part of a network of smart LinkedIn trainers, so there is always sound advice shared and I make lots of notes.

🤖 AI, for all its advancement, can’t replicate our emotions as humans when we speak to an audience (at least for the moment!)

This was one of the topics discussed at last night’s Birmingham Professional Speaking Association November meet up. It was an enlightening evening featuring two very different keynote speakers, a thought-provoking panel discussion and networking with other speakers, all hosted brilliantly by regional president Dave James.

Being part of the PSA is giving me the impetus to speak more and speak better.

I’ve always enjoyed speaking in public. I’m sure having been a teacher for almost 30 years has something to do with it.

I also believe speaking is a human way of getting your personal brand in front of the people you want to attract - whether that’s ideal clients or industry leaders.

⭐️ What do I speak about?

My talk is focused on building a personal brand showing how business owners can effectively market themselves on social media and through other digital marketing channels. I share the main steps, developed from my own personal brand journey, to enable them to focus on how they can become seen, known and remembered above their competitors.

💕 Married 18 years today, 18th August.

Thank you to my gorgeous husband Rich who is my absolute rock.

I couldn’t ask any more from him - he gives the biggest hugs, is my best friend and makes me so happy.

We got married in Mauritius, so to go back there this year makes our anniversary today extra-special.

Growing older together is a gift. We do wish it wasn’t going so fast though.
Here’s to many more happy years 🥂🥰

🇲🇺 Two weeks since I’ve been back from Mauritius - and I’m still dreaming about it!

Thank goodness for my camera roll. 😍 It really is such a beautiful place to capture images of.

Most amazing of these were taken in the north of Mauritius where we stayed - Pereybere (fantastic public beach) as well as Grand Baie and Cap Malheureux (pic 5)

Picture 6 was taken at Alexandra Falls where there is a great viewpoint to see the south coast resort of Bel Ombre.

Anyone else planning to keep their holiday memories alive for as long as possible? 😎

😊 I’m excited for this!

Tomorrow I’m attending the My Skin My Story 4th birthday celebration in London, where we’ll be Celebrating Women of Colour.

This amazing group founded by Sathya Bala is so welcomed.
Why?
Because it is much needed safe and supportive space that’s enabled me to talk about being a woman of colour with all the challenges, misrepresentations, stereotypes and discrimination that exists today.

It’s a blessing to find a group that can relate to all the stuff I have carried around in my head and questioned for the last 40 years.

🔗 There’s much more to LinkedIn than finding leads and making sales.

When I first started using it 7 years ago, I was randomly connecting with people on LinkedIn but really I was just collecting connections.

Now I’m on LinkedIn to find out about people, get to know them and build my network. When the people you connect with are on your wavelength, have mutual interests or share the same values, that’s one of the true benefits of being on there.

😊 When connections turn into friendships, it’s even better.

I was delighted to finally meet two fabulous women Sharon Ehrlich and Sathya Bala in London a couple of weeks ago. What a wonderful conversation and lunch we had together.

The three of us met through Sathya’s excellent community My Skin My Story back in 2021.

It’s been a pleasure to grow together, both professionally and in our appreciation of each other’s journeys, as three female business owners who are also women of colour.

🎙 I’ve been especially encouraged to see how they have both embraced marketing to bring greater visibility to their businesses. They are both great LinkedIn Live hosts!
