[RETAINED] Saltburn Combined Aerial Rescue Pump (CARP) Turnout - Cleveland Fire Brigade

Saltburn’s combined aerial rescue pump turning out from home station on bonfire night 2024 to a unknown incident using blue lights.

Saltburn Fire Station is located on the east coast of Cleveland and staffed utilising the On-Call Duty System. Local residents are also on call firefighters living within 5 minutes travel time of the station. On-Call Duty Firefighters usually have other commitments in their local community and wider area, but give a commitment to respond to emergency calls when needed.

On one of Cleveland Fire Brigade’s busiest nights of the year, crews from Blue Watch responded to a staggering 147 incidents—including 79 bonfires, two of which spread to nearby homes. The second most common type of incident they responded to was rubbish fires, with crews attending a total of 56 incidents. Fire Control received 166 calls, almost a third more than last year.

Firefighters are currently supporting Cadent Manchester’s gas emergency service whilst they respond to a large main burst on Oldham Road, Ashton. Oldham Road is closed between Cranbrook St and Wellington Rd whilst crews deal with this incident

✅ This road has now reopened but is using temporary lights at the junction.

Two fire engines from are currently in attendance at a large spill of Soap on Broad Street, Salford. The slipway from Broad Street to Albion Way is currently closed whilst crews deal with this incident.

At around 12:30 AM, 5 fire crews from Moss Side, Manchester Central, Salford and Broughton were called to a fire involving a bin that had spread through a bin chute to internal building cavities. Crews were quick to bring the fire under control and the incident was scaled down to 2 appliances at around 3 AM.

10 Fire crews have been tackling a large fire overnight at Dovestones Reservoir, Specialist off-road vehicles and wildfire equipment are in use to contain the fire and bring it under control. Firefighters have been in attendance for around 6 hours.

Scotland Street and parts of Park Parade in are currently closed whilst Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) crews assist Tameside Council with a spillage of animal waste on the roadway. Firefighters are using specialist equipment to prevent the spill from entering the waterways.

A plaque has been unveiled in memory of John Ogden a Manchester firefighter who died in the line of duty after he fell from a moving fire engine on an emergency call out in May 1996.
