I’m a believer that sometimes when it comes to creating content, perfectionism can be the one thing holding us back.
Now hear me out. I’m not saying post really crappy content. But what I am saying, is that whilst the content does need to be good, sometimes if the difference between posting and not posting is perfectionism, then post the damn content.
Sometimes it’s just a case of removing a barrier to posting.
I’m a prime example of this. I’ve just scheduled my weeks work of Instagram and Facebook content for my photography account using meta business suite. The captions are great (if I do say so myself) and the images used speak for themselves.
But on Instagram there’s no music added, and one of the posts the images are landscape and not put into a portrait collage as some other photographers would do. Doing both those things, however, feels really overwhelming right now. And if I forced myself to do so, I’d have procrastinated and not posted or scheduled the content, even though realistically it would only have taken an extra 5-10 minutes per post. Because those few extra steps (opening up and creating on Canva, and then posting individually to Instagram and Facebook) just felt like too much.
Were the posts perfect? Not according to the Instagram experts.
Am I upset about this? No, because ignoring these steps meant that I was actually able to post content without feeling overwhelmed.
The next time you find yourself putting off creating content, think about why. And then (if you can) remove the part that feels the most overwhelming.
If that still doesn't work, maybe it's time to consider outsourcing your content?
