The Community Policing Volunteer (CPV) programme offers more roles than any other UK police service. The programme continues to develop in response to the increasing demands.

Join as a CPV and use your skills, abilities, experience and local knowledge, to make a positive contribution by supporting local communities. The opportunities vary from role-to-role and are dependent on the level of commitment and the amount of free time you have.

Our volunteers provide direct support to specialist policing teams and to our service. The programme has improved community support, helping to maintain a higher police presence in our communities and helping us to achieve our aim to reduce crime and disorder.

We have a variety of exciting roles available:
- Equine
- Coastal
- Canine
- Joint Response Unit (front-line multi-agency team staffed by police and paramedics)
- Security
- Volunteer Police Community Support Officer

Our workshops offer you the chance to find out more about the recruitment and selection process. We will go through the process step by step, from starting an application to joining us.

We have joined police forces across the South East to work together to intensify operations to tackle rural crime this week.

Kent, along with Hampshire and Isle of Wight, Surrey, Sussex, and Thames Valley police forces have set up the South East Partnership Against Rural Crime (SEPARC) to ensure co-operation to make the region a hostile environment for countryside offenders.

To launch the new partnership, the forces will be undertaking numerous different operations to target and disrupt wildlife, environmental, heritage and agricultural criminals from Monday 26 February 2024 until Friday 1 March 2024.

Head of Prevention at Kent Police, Superintendent Pete Steenhuis, said: 'Tackling rural crime is a priority for Kent Police and we recently increased the size of our Rural Task Force to ensure we can continue to provide a high quality service, supporting victims and bringing offenders to justice.

'We regularly work with our neighbouring forces across the South East to ensure a joined-up approach and look forward to achieving further positive outcomes as a result of this week of action. Criminals do not recognise county borders so it is important that we work together in this way to represent the best interests of residents, businesses and visitors to our rural communities.'

Rural crime is defined as offences that relate to farms, agriculture, wildlife, the environment and heritage sites, where they are targeted due to their isolation or rural location.

Operations include disrupting offenders alongside the National Rural Crime Team, providing security advice at service stations and stopping suspicious vehicles on the strategic road network.

Learn how to intervene and prevent harmful and dangerous situations by signing up for free active bystander training.

We have teamed up with Folkestone & Hythe District Council to fund ten free online training sessions as part of our Safer Streets projects.

The training will equip people with the skills to recognise and react to dangerous situations, and how to offer support to others who are in difficult circumstances.

Funding for the campaign came from the Government’s Safer Streets Fund, after we - through the Community Safety Partnership - worked with the Kent Police and Crime Commissioner to successfully bid for the additional resources.

The money is being invested into measures in Sittingbourne and Sheerness Town Centres that will help tackle the higher level of crime, antisocial behaviour and violence against women and girls.
