MY PARENTS CAME TO VISIT 🥰

We’ve been in Thailand since the start of November and over the last two weeks, my (Danielle’s) parents have been here on holiday 🌞

We’ve had such an amazing time with them and we can’t wait to show you more of what we’ve been up to here in Thailand, but for now here are some photos of our time with my mum & dad 🩵 Missing them already! Here’s a lil breakdown of what we have been doing:

Luckily, it’s not too long until I’ll see them again. We’re heading home next week for Christmas before continuing our tropical adventures in 2024 ✈️🌴

Throwback to one of the best trips of our lives 🥹

In April 2022 we got 6 of our friends together and hired out a boat to sail around the Komodo islands in Flores⛵️

Not only was this an incredibly memorable experience thanks to the amazing marine life we saw, the delicious food we shared and sleeping out in the middle of the ocean watching the stars… ✨

We were blown away by the magnificent beauty of this part of Indonesia. The nature and the landscapes here are something else and this trip should 100% be on your bucket list 😍

Things to know👇🏼
• We booked with Le Pirate and would recommend them, they do group trips as well as private boat hire if you have a few friends who want to go together
• If you book your own boat you can be more flexible with your schedule and go to places when there are less people there
• Visit from April - June for the best lush green landscapes and beautiful weather

Since we’ve had lots of new faces join us this month, we thought we’d do a little re-introduction and tell you a little bit about ourselves 🤗

We’re Matt & Danielle, we’re 32 and 31 years old and we’re from the UK. We’ve been together 8 years and in August 2021, we decided to leave the UK and start travelling full-time with no end date.

Fast forward to more than 2 years later and we’ve spent 11 months travelling Indonesia, we bought a camper van and drove a lap around Australia, island hopped around the Philippines for 2 months and spent some time in Malaysia and Singapore.

If you haven’t noticed, we’re obsessed with travelling! We have so many things on our bucket list, from road tripping New Zealand, backpacking South America, exploring Japan in the springtime, Safari in Africa and van lifing in Europe, we sometimes feel there’s not enough time to do it all!

We love sharing our tropical travel adventures with you and providing tips and advice whenever we can, and hopefully inspiring you to visit places you’ve always dreamed of, or never heard about until you see one of our posts.

Beach days are best when it’s just us two 💙

This is Mandorak Beach, found on the west coast of Sumba, just a 2 minute drive from Weekuri Lagoon. It’s a pretty steep parking fee of 50K IDR / £2.50 (we’ve never paid that much for parking in Indonesia 😅) but what’s £2.50 when you get this slice of paradise all to yourself? 😍🌊

Wee Kacura waterfall is one of the most beautiful we’ve EVER seen 🤯 A waterfall in a rice field feels like pure magic ✨

Blown away by the raw beauty of Sumba 💦

This waterfall is a must when visiting the island, the gatorade blue colour of the water reminded us of the Philippines 😮💙

We’re not 100% sure if you need a guide or not but it does take quite a scramble to get to the higher waterfalls (there’s 3 tiers in total). We had a kind local take us all the way up with his two kids and we spent the afternoon playing and swimming in the perfect water 😍

We found paradise in Sumba 💙

We still can’t believe we got to experience this all to ourselves. These steps leading down into the water reminded me of something you’d see in Europe all over Pinterest 🌞

Tips for visiting 📍 Waikuri Lagoon;
• high tide is best if you want to jump off the platform
• it’s super quiet during weekdays and you’ll likely find a few tourists + locals here on weekends
• it’s a bit of a bumpy road to get here, you’ll go through some fields, a school and pass a few cows (half the adventure is getting there right? 😜)
• make sure to support the locals and spend a little in their shops, they sell anything from fresh coconuts to beautiful sarongs!

Moments from our time in Nusa Lembongan 🌺

You know you chose a good place to live when you can have an island getaway 30 minutes from the island you live on 😎

We are already excited to come back here and enjoy the slow paced life that Lembongan offers! Plus we need to experience all over again because we had such a relaxing time there 🥰 the bungalows are so beautiful and we loved having our own private garden space 🙌🏼

We’re surprised that when we mention Lembongan that not a lot of people have actually heard of it, we can’t wait to show you more of this island in a reel next week but for now, enjoy the snaps 📸💙

Welcome to… TUMPAK SEWU 💦

One of the most impressive waterfalls we’ve ever seen 🤯

Here are our top tips for visiting Tumpak Sewu👇🏼

• Start at the viewpoint (just after sunrise is a good time), if you have a drone this is a great place to fly it
• Wear swimwear/waterproofs and water shoes. You can rent water shoes before you come down and we definitely recommend them. If you have a dry bag make sure to bring that too!
• Head down to the waterfall around 7.30am-8am to beat the heat and the crowds
• Find your own spot; when we arrived people were queuing for a few photo spots, instead we found our own and started taking photos 📸 then a queue formed behind us 🙊
• Get close to the waterfall; there’s a barrier you can walk up to and you can feel the sheer power of the water 🤯 you will get drenched but that’s half the fun right?
• Don’t skip the other waterfalls in the area; your guide will know where to take you but there’s a handful of waterfalls you can go and explore after Tumpak Sewu and they’re so beautiful
• Spend a whole morning here, don’t rush!

Mt. Bromo moments 😍

This was such an incredible trip, bar my very serious health scare which we’ll talk about briefly below 👇🏼😬

The sunrise was definitely our favourite part, the orange colours of the morning sun reflecting off the crater was something else 🙌🏼

After sunrise we headed to the base of Mt.Bromo. We suffered from altitude sickness for the first time ever and I didn’t eat for a full 24h after this 🙈 not to mention the horses that get dragged up the crater to carry people to and from the top basically made it impossible for me to breath (I’m ridiculously allergic to them). So not a great combo for me, and unfortunately I didn’t make it up to the crater but Matt showed me all the incredible footage he captured 😍

Disconnecting from the world in the Mentawai’s 🏝️

These islands are so raw and beautiful, you can go totally off grid into the jungle, find your own slice of paradise on a secluded island or live local life in a tiny town…

During our time in Sipora we had entire beaches to ourselves, the most crystal clear water to swim in and the sunshine beaming down on us everyday 🌞

So far we’ve taken you to some of our favoruite stops in Sumatra, and later this week we’ll be showing you our time in East Java too 😍 If you are looking for an adventure and want to experience something other than Bali… SUMATRA should be next on your list ✅

The Mentawai Tribe in Sumatra, Indonesia…

These people are part of one of the oldest tribes in all of Indonesia, and we went to stay with them for 4 days. It was eventful to say the least! We also got an insight into a completely different way of life, different for us anyway.

This way of living is actually older than anything we knew, as this tribe dates back over 2000 years. While the world has changed, and their way of life is definitely still different to what it would have been even 50 years ago, it’s still a lot closer to their ancient ancestors than any of us.

We loved our time with the Mentawai tribe, and to make things even better we even managed to capture these beautiful pictures to remember our time by. Although we have always had a love of the ocean, we are finding ourselves fall more and more in love with the jungle.

Spending time with different tribes may just be something we include in our future travels.

We don’t often talk about our relationship (or get this soppy…) but we feel so lucky to have found each other, and that we each found someone who shares the same dreams and passions.

Having one of us be crazy enough to say “let’s quit our jobs and travel” and having the other be insane enough to say “f**k it, let’s do it!”

To have found someone you are not only partners in life with, but also in business.

We feel unconditional love for and like we can be ourselves around one another.

We lift each other up when we feel down. Make each other feel loved when we feel unlovable and are excited to wake up next to each other everyday.

We’re both so grateful for each other, our life and our relationship. I’m personally grateful Matt said yes to my crazy idea to leave our old life and start something new.

This is only the beginning 🤍

MENTAWAI PARADISE 🏝️

We recently visited the Mentawai islands in West Sumatra, more specifically, Sipora.

We hired a fishing boat for the day to take us to a few places around the different islands. Here we found a raw and and untouched paradise with no one else in sight 🥹🌴

Our first stop was a random beach, that we couldn’t find the name of turned and it turned out to be the best beach of the day 🏝️ The sand was soft, the ocean was crystal clear and blue and the island was a paradise! What do you think? 😍

We wish we could give a recommendation on where it was, but in fairness the Mentawai Islands are full of incredible dreamy islands and beaches just like this… So we encourage you to go and discover them for yourself 🏖️

It’s definitely one of the lesser explored gems in Indonesia, and we loved it 😍🙌🏼

Where do we start? 🤔

Lately we’ve been feeling more drawn to slowing down the pace of our lifestyle…

We’re feeling a mixture of tiredness but still yearning for adventure, and we want to work on our own personal development and growth so we can hit our business goals 💻

We’re a little bit exhausted from living on the road for two years and moving around a lot and feel we would benefit from being static for a little while (whilst also having time for adventures here and there)

We’re wondering if we follow our head and go back to somewhere we know, like Bali? Somewhere we can happily live, work and still explore from a hub.

Or do we follow our heart and be more adventurous and visit somewhere new to establish a base for a few months… like Mexico?

Or maybe there’s a European option that we haven’t thought of yet? 🙈

We love this life so much and the last two years have been crazy, unforgettable, amazing and exciting and we have no doubt that we’ll continue after slowing down for a little bit (because let’s face it, we’ll get bored after 6 months and want to explore again) 😜

The fact we’re even writing this and are facing this decision makes us feel so happy to have made travel our lifestyle. This is a problem we only ever dreamed to have 3 years ago 🥹
