A cautionary tale from MGE HQ and one for which I am happy to take my medicine for the benefit of others.
I took our Project MG TF for an MOT on Friday. It failed because one of the seemingly decent tyres on it was breaking up on the inner edge. Closer inspection showed that when the previous owner, I assume, fitted the lovely, pretty rims on it, two directional tyres had been fitted on the wrong corners of the car. I didn’t look closely enough - entirely my own fault.
It has cost me a couple of tyres. But the price could have been a lot higher. A cautionary tale for all, and a big slice of humble pie for me. Needless to say, I was at the tyre shop this morning as soon as it opened and PO52 XKE now lives to fight another year.
If you’ve bought a used car recently - modern or old - nip outside and check your tyres.
