- International Mountain Day -

Well, I couldn't not share my love for the biggest mountain of my 2023 on this International Mountain Day.

Kilimanjaro stands at 5895m, giving it the prestigious title of Highest Peak in Africa and, therefore, one of the seven summits.

The mountain is situated in Tanzania, not far from the border of Kenya. It is a trekking peak with various routes to the top, depending on how long you'd like to be trekking. No technical climbing experience is required, but this majestic giant should not be taken lightly. At 5895m, this is high altitude territory!

Have you been to Kilimanjaro?

What is your favourite mountain this year? Drop it in the comments ⬇️⬇️⬇️

💥 URGENT💥

Hiking community - please be on the look out in the Eyri / Snowdonia area for these four missing teenagers.

They went out on a camping trip on Sunday and have not been heard from since.

We know that mobile signal can be poor in the mountains and it could just be that they're deep in their adventure but their families and police are now concerned for their welfare.

If you have any information of their whereabouts please contact the police.

Series 5 Episode 4 - Fancy a walk mate? With James Moon

After living life in a constant cycle of under the influence or recovering, James started to reevaluate his life. He had become someone he didn’t like, he felt he wasn’t being true to himself and he was forever making bad choices. After much reflection, hard work and support, he started wanting to truly “live” life and wanted to make the most of being alive and all that the universe has to offer, especially the outdoors and the power of being in nature.
Here’s where Fancy A Walk Mate was born.

Listen to us chat to James about his past, his vices, his early career and how nature has helped him be the best he can be, and how he now helps other men along the way.
We talk about how damaging toxic masculinity is and how important it is to change this in society so men feel safe expressing their feelings and sharing their worries without fear of judgement.

We met James in the beautiful Macclesfield Forest, we experienced a meditation then a short walk to a secluded spot for our chat.

We met with Harrison Ward, who is better known as

Harrison battled with poor mental health and alcoholism before making the choice to turn it all around. He moved back to roots in Cumbria and got outside.

He began to combine his new love for hiking with his love for food, and before long, he was getting noticed as the man who produced restaurant worthy dishes in the hills.

You can cook up your own gastronomic delights by purchasing Harrison's debut book 'Cook Out' which is available now 📖

S5 Ep3 Harrison Ward aka Fell Foodie - Cook Out

In 2016, Harrison made the decision to change his life. Years of ill mental health saw Harrison turn to alcohol to cope with the struggles of depression and thoughts of su***de.

A relationship breakdown sparked a shift in his mindset, and he vowed to remove alcohol and smoking from his life. With that, he left York and returned home to Cumbria, where he was met with love and support.

To fill the void left by 20 pints a day, he needed a new hobby. He soon found himself out in the Lakeland fells, hiking and getting fit. He began to combine his love for great food and his newfound love for hiking, and the Fell Foodie was born.

We met with Harrison in the Lake District, where he treated us by cooking lunch on the hill side overlooking Windermere.

The iconic sycamore tree that has stood for over 200 years along Hadrian's wall has been deliberately cut down.

It is said that it appears to have been cut down with a chainsaw, and as of yet, nobody knows why or by whom.

The tree, which is one of the highlights of the Hadrian's wall long-distance trail, was also featured in the film 'Robin Hood Prince of Thieves' and has long been a popular attraction in the North East of England. It has to be one of the most photographed trees in England.

Are you one of the lucky people to have seen it in all it's glory?

Summit to Talk About Podcast

🎙We're back on Monday 11th September with an awesome guest for Episode 1.

Alex Staniforth is an adventurer, endurance athlete, author, motivational speaker, fundraiser, and founder of the charity, Mind Over Mountains.

As a child, like many of us, Alex dreamt of climbing the tallest mountain on earth, Mount Everest. Alex couldn't shake this dream and put his all into making it a reality. At just 17, he went to Nepal 🇳🇵 to make it happen. However, whilst he was still at base camp, disaster struck as an avalanche swept down the mountain, tragically, taking the lives of 16 people.

The expedition was cancelled, and Alex returned a year later to go again. On route to camp 1, Alex came face to face with an avalanche, knocking him off his feet. This was the result of the huge earthquake that hit Nepal in 2015. He made it to camp 1, where he was trapped for 2 days without a route back to base camp.

Alex has documented his story so far in his books 'Ice Fall' and 'Another Peak'.

Alex has raised thousands of pounds for charities, including his own charity Mind over Mountains.
