Yellow Advertiser Yellow Advertiser is a free online newspaper and website covering Essex and east London.

Yellow Advertiser was established in 1976 when its founder, Ian Fletcher, came up with the pioneering idea for an advertising-lead, free, community newspaper. More than 30 years on, not only is the paper stronger than ever, but it has acted as a template for other newspaper businesses across the UK. Yellow Advertiser was bought from Trinity Mirror in August 2007 by Tindle Newspapers and in 2019 editor Mick Ferris took ownership of the YA brand.

Our Story

Yellow Advertiser was established in 1976 when its founder, Ian Fletcher, came up with the pioneering idea for an advertising-led, free, community newspaper. More than 43 years on, the paper has acted as a template for other newspaper businesses across the UK. Yellow Advertiser was bought from Trinity Mirror in August 2007 by Tindle Newspapers.

In June 2019 Tindle announced the closure of the YA. However, editor Mick Ferris successfully negotiated the takeover of the name, the website domain and the digital archive of editions dating back to 2009 and barely seven weeks later the Yellow Advertiser was back in business. Covering Basildon, Southend, Castle Point, Havering, Chelmsford, Thurrock, Brentwood, Redbridge, Waltham Forest and Barking & Dagenham, the Yellow Advertiser is poised to go from strength to strength with a newly designed website which will include the weekly paper, designed as if in print but available free to readers in digital format.
