.restaurant owners and are celebrating after scooping national award and making the semi-final of a prestigious competition. 🎉

Laurissa Cook was recently awarded with an Acorn Award, which recognises 30 of the UK hospitality industry’s most talented stars, aged under 30.

It has also been announced that Tom has made it through to the semi-final of National Chef of The Year. Ten finalists will be revealed on July 29th.

“We love what we do here at Pignut and we never do it for the awards – we’re passionate about the power of local ingredients, the farmers and growers we work with and sustainability,” said Laurissa and Tom.

The Michelin-starred restaurant with eight rooms in Cumbria has been sold to the couple by its longstanding owners, Liam and Kath Berney - who are retiring after 22 years at the helm.

“We both care deeply about how the business operates, and are fully committed to continuing to build on and evolve many of the sustainability initiatives already in place, as well as introducing several new ones,” said Jack and Beth.

Chef Liam Smith from Northumberland’s Pine Restaurant and Adam Jones from Horto Restuarant inside North Yorkshire Hotel, Rudding Park, have made it through to the regional finals for The Roux Scholarship.

Chairman Michel Roux Jr said: “The successful chefs sent in a really great set of recipes that all showcase some amazing skills and presentation in their dishes. It’s going to be another blockbuster of a year as we celebrate our 40th anniversary.”

The Roux Scholarship has announced 18 regional finalists for 2024 including chefs from Yorkshire and Northumberland

This year’s theme celebrates the Olympics and Paralympics - but who are the chefs who will be battling it out?

1️⃣ Samira Effa is head chef at Grantley Hall’s EightyEight Bar and Restaurant.
Samira returns to compete for the third time and her menu will celebrate great Olympic Athletes from Yorkshire.

2️⃣ Scott John-Hodgson is head chef at Newcastle’s Michelin-starred Solstice.
Born and bread in Teesside, Scott started his career at House of Tides. His menu will celebrate North East rower, Kat Copeland.

3️⃣ Adam Degg is head chef at Rudding Park Hotel Horto restaurant where he draws inspiration from the kitchen garden. This has helped him earn a Green Michelin Star for sustainable cooking. His menu will celebrate Olympic medals.

4️⃣ Cal Byerley is co-owner of Restaurant Pine in Northumberland. The 33-year-old is competing in his second consecutive year. His menu is inspired by North East sporting legends and medal winners

The michelin-starred team behind Northumberland’s Restaurant Pine are thrilled to announce a brand-new event “biteback” a charity fundraiser in aid of cancer research uk.

15 of the UK’s best multi-award-winning Michelin-starred Chefs will come together to raise funds through this unique fundraising event, which will take place on June 9 at Wylam Brewery, Palace of Arts, Newcastle.

You might think that winter is a terrible time to visit Scotland but The Torridon takes that idea and destroys it completely. From this “little northern restaurant in the middle of nowhere which was set up on a shoestring” back in 2002, Simon Rogan has grown his businesses to a considerable scale – and he now owns a total of 10 restaurants around the world, with his tenth opening in Thailand this December.
