The A.L.D collection.
Clearly, this list of five favourites has two heavy focusses. It is clear that I am currently thoroughly enjoying more dressy pieces, and in particular watches with playful dials.
Starting as a case make right here in Britain in 1874, have made cases for the likes of Rolex, Omega, Longines and even JLC.
Following an attempted relaunch as a watch brand in 2016, are now back with the A.L.D collection. A collection of beautifully executed and surprisingly affordable dress watches. The A.L.D certainly gives off an air of being a much more expensive watch than it actually is. Thanks to a Swiss Ronda quartz caliber, these 33.4mm stunners come in at around £500.
Now, some of you (a lot of my close watch friends included) would probably turn their noses up at this piece for being quartz. However, with no seconds hand and an impressive thickness of 6.05mm, I have no issue with it. Couple that with this being not only the first release of the brands rebirth, but also a release into a very popular market of 70’s style design, makes this watch an absolute cracker in my opinion.
It also seems from photos and articles that I have seen that due to the curvy lines of the case, it wears larger than the quoted size from the brand.
This watch looks absolutely fantastic, really in any of the available dial colours. That being said my pick would be the blue, no question. A watch that I would wear to death if it was part of my collection.
Hopefully; as with all of the pieces in this series of posts, I can get hands on with the full A.L.D lineup very soon!
