Kit Downs performs Harry Bakerâs 'Brave Face' for solo organ, commissioned by Choir & Organ as part of our New Music partnership with Ben Parry and the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain. âBrave Faceâ is inspired by the phrase âputting on a brace faceâ. The expression seems to describe two distinct approaches to challenges: either itâs a âstiff upper lipâ, perhaps denial-rooted attitude, or it can denote a considered, mature response to problems. The composition displays one example of these two approaches in action, reflecting the âdanceâ between them we often engage in. The piece also features improvisation by Kit.
