This is an excellent result, especially as so many of you have already been so supportive by purchasing the 60th Anniversary t-shirts at Easter and donating to our Ross Revenge Dry Dock charity through the Crowdfunder and other means. We are still receiving additional donations in the mail and by direct transfers, which will add to the final total.

After deducting the cost of the tees, half the money raised will go to our charity, Ross Revenge (Home of Radio Caroline) towards the cost of dry docking our ship, the other half will be used to expand Radio Caroline's three broadcast channels

We have ordered around 1,500 Mi Amigo and Ronan quote tees and our printer Signature Works expects to start sending these out from Northern Ireland w/c 19 August.

This weekend on the Caroline Archive Hour, we're featuring a brand new restoration of the Final Fab 40, originally broadcast on Radio London on Sunday 6th August 1967. The normal timeslot was 12-3pm, but on this last occasion presented by former Caroline man Tommy Vance ('TV on Radio'), the show overran, actually taking 3 hours 22 minutes. Obviously we can't fit all that into two one-hour Archive Hour shows, but we will be playing the top 27 beginning on Saturday night at 8pm, and continuing on Sunday night at the same time. So, be sure to tune in to hear that Fab 40, including all the links, commercials and jingles, in better quality than has ever been possible before!

On this Saturday's (27th's) Caroline Archive Hour, we have a listener-requested restored recording of Mark Stuart on Radio Northsea International, from Thursday 5th August, 1971. And on Sunday night (28th), we have the very last segment of the Caroline 819 Album Top 200 from Easter 1989, with Rob Harrison and Paul Shelton counting down to the number one album. Don't miss it!

We have extended our broadcasting reach with the launch of the Album Channel and Caroline Flashback on DAB across Northern Ireland. This significant milestone, achieved in collaboration with Ulster MUX, marks a new era for radio listeners in the region.

Initially, the project aimed to serve Newry, but thanks to the ambitious efforts by Ulster MUX, the coverage has expanded significantly. On 15 July, the team successfully launched the service across a much broader territory.

Ulster MUX Ltd has a rich history in Irish radio, dating back to the 1980s, including periods of unlicensed broadcasting. Their expertise and dedication were crucial in the installation of ten transmitters at various strategic sites, ensuring comprehensive coverage. This operation sets a new record, as the largest number of transmitters previously installed by other SS DAB operators was four.

“We are thrilled to bring the Radio Caroline Album Channel and Caroline Flashback to a wider audience in Northern Ireland,” said station manager Peter Moore. “For Radio Caroline, this expansion is particularly meaningful because it allows the us to broadcast to Greenore, the historic site where our two iconic radio ships Mi Amigo and Fredericia were converted in secrecy over 60 years ago.

“This port, which was owned by the father of Radio Caroline's founder Ronan O'Rahilly, holds a special place in the station's colourful past. So the expansion not only strengthens our presence but also reconnects us with a significant part of our history.”

The album is from Radio Caroline presenter Barry James's personal collection. Barry interviewed Bryan Adams on his Friday show recently and went backstage at the Thetford gig, where Bryan signed the album for our Crowdfunder Draw. On the Caroline Archive Hour, we haven't played anything from the 60's for awhile, so in part 1 this Saturday, we have a restored recording of 'Baby' Bob Stewart on the original Radio Caroline North, presenting a Caroline Club Request Hour on the evening of the 30th June 1965.

And then in part 2 on Sunday night, we have something really special. A listener to the Archive Hour sent us a tape they had recorded of Jay Jackson's very last hour on Caroline twenty years later, on 30th June 1985. We've cleaned that up, and it now sounds very good indeed.

In response to another listener request, this week in the Caroline Archive Hour we're playing a restored two-hour recording of Mike Ross on the Mebo II in June 1973. Mike was one of the longest serving DJ's on RNI, appearing on the station in all five years it was at sea - 1970-1974. In June 1970, experienced American broadcaster Larry Tremaine joined the DJ team on the Mebo II, and after a few weeks, took over from Roger Day as RNI's Programme Director. He used the on-air monikers of 'The Geater with the Heater' and 'The Boss with the Hot Soss' (sauce), and had a rapid fire style all his own. On this weekend's Archive Hour, we have a two-hour restored recording of Larry's very first show, from the evening of Friday 12th June, 1970, just a few hours before the station became Radio Caroline International for the General Election campaign. Catch it on Saturday 8th at 8pm for the first hour, and then continued on Sunday 9th at the same time for the second hour in part 2.

Our prize draw is for a backgammon set which was a personal possession of Radio Caroline's legendary founder, the late Ronan O'Rahilly. Ronan was described as an 'addicted' backgammon player and regularly played backgammon using this set with friends, including his personal assistant Lyn Gilbert in the1970s. Lyn refers to their backgammon sessions in her book 𝐵𝑒ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑑 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑆𝑐𝑒𝑛𝑒𝑠 𝑎𝑡 𝑅𝑎𝑑𝑖𝑜 𝐶𝑎𝑟𝑜𝑙𝑖𝑛𝑒, a signed copy of which is included with the set, together with a signed letter from Lyn confirming the backgammon set belonged to Ronan O'Rahilly. The backgammon set is in a red faux suede travel case and has bakelite pieces.

Radio Caroline presenter Ray Clark will be giving his popular illustrated talk ‘Radio Caroline – The True Story of The Boat That Continues to Rock 60 Years On’ at St Gregory’s Church Sudbury, Suffolk on Sunday 15 September at 2 pm.

Come along to the ‘Church That Rocks’ and hear the fascinating story of the world-famous pirate radio station and the battles that went on behind the scenes in the 60s, 70s and 80s, and why the station is still going strong on its 60th anniversary.

The talk will be in two parts with an interval. Ray will also be signing copies of his latest book. Tickets are £12 in advance and all proceeds go to the Ross Revenge Charity Dry Dock Appeal.

On the Caroline Archive Hour, we often get suggestions for specific presenters or stations to feature, and one such recent request was for "more shows by cooks, please!" with Debbie England's name being mentioned as an example. Well, Debbie was much more than just a cook, and she presented on both Radio Caroline in 1973 and Radio Atlantis in 1974. This Saturday, we have a restored hour of Debbie doing a 'Blast Off' show on Atlantis from early June 1974. And on Sunday night, we'll be paying our last but one visit to the Caroline 819 Album Top 200 from Easter 1984, with Rob & Paul playing the countdown to number 11.

After several months of testing and problems with aerials held aloft by balloons that blew away, Laser 558 finally launched from the MV Communicator on Thursday 24th May 1984 - 40 years ago. This weekend on the Caroline Archive Hour, we'll be remembering that occasion, with the official opening at 5am, and then two hours of the first breakfast show with Ric Harris (pictured). David Lee Stone was also on news duty. That's this Saturday night, at 8pm, and then continued on Sunday night at the same time.

This weekend on the Caroline Archive Hour, we have two shows from Radio Atlanta - the station that merged with Radio Caroline and became Radio Caroline South. Most Radio Atlanta shows were prerecorded in London, but two American DJ's, Bob Scott and Johnny Jackson (pictured), presented daily shows live from the ship during May and June 1964. On Saturday night at 8pm we'll be playing a restored recording of Bob Scott from the evening of Monday 18th May - this date 60 years ago - and on Sunday night at 8 we'll have the following hour on the same evening, from Johnny Jackson.

During the raid, Dutch officials stripped all the components from the three transmitters onboard Ross Revenge and took them to Holland, along with this valve and many other items. When the items were returned some years later, the 50kW Ampliphase broadcast transmitter and this RCA BTA 10 valve which transmitted Radio Caroline on 558 were rebuilt.

The transmitter was briefly returned to use during a short-term broadcast off Clacton-on-Sea, Essex in the early 90s - increasing the 1W of power permitted to 2000W, in the hope that the broadcast would end before anyone had time to react.

The valve is mounted on a solid wooden plinth with engraved plaque

This weekend (Sat. 4th & Sun. 5th May), the Caroline Archive Hour is presenting a restored recording of Tom Hardy on the MV Mi Amigo, with Caroline Album Countdown no.2. A week after Caroline's return at Easter 1979, a bi-weekly Album Countdown was instituted on Monday nights from 5-8pm. This is the second of those shows, from Bank Holiday Monday, 7th May 1979. We'll be playing the second hour of the chart show on Saturday night at 8pm, and then will continue with the third and final hour at the same time on Sunday night. Be sure to tune in for some great late-70's album tracks.

We've had several shows recently on the Archive Hour from the 70's and 80's, so this weekend we're going back to the 60's. Lorne King was a popular Canadian DJ on Big L, Radio London, for four months from February to May 1967. On Saturday night at 8 o'clock and continuing on Sunday night at the same time, we have a restored recording of two hours of an early evening Lorne King show from Friday 21st April 1967, when he was sitting in for Kenny Everett. The quality is outstanding, and if you were a listener at that time, this show will really take you back!

This weekend on the Caroline Archive Hour, we'll be playing restored recordings of two hours of presenter Chris Frisco on Caroline 558, celebrating the station's 26th birthday, from the morning of Easter Sunday, 15th April 1990. Conditions were pretty rough at that time, but there was a dedicated team of jocks on board 'keeping the dream alive', celebrating by playing classics from Caroline's first 26 years. Radio Caroline presenter Ray Clark will be giving an illustrated talk on 'Radio Caroline - The True Story of The Boat That Continues to Rock 60 Years On', at Mangapps Railway Museum in Burnham-on-Crouch, Essex on Bank Holiday Monday 6 May.

Come along from 11 am and immerse yourself in the fascinating exhibits at Mangapps, including a massive collection of locomotives and rolling stock and a huge array of railway memorabilia. Then take a nostalgic ride in a carriage pulled by the 'Radio Caroline' locomotive, unveiled by Rick Wakeman in October. The 126-ton Class 31 mainline loco built in 1959 may well have hauled the trains that took the likes of Johnnie Walker and Tony Blackburn to Harwich in the 60s.

In his two-part illustrated talk starting at 1 pm, Ray Clark will tell you about the fascinating story of the world-famous pirate radio station and the battles that went on behind the scenes in the 60s, 70s and 80s. He will also be signing copies of his latest book.
