World Oceans Day refilled my cup 🍷✨🌊

I was so honoured to speak and do a panel at ‘s event for World Ocean Day at House of Photography. To say the day was a ✨VIBE✨ is an understatement. Not only did I get to share the stage with my incredibly talented bestie (and the amazing !)but I also met so many other incredible scientists and filmmakers, caught up with old friends AND got to share my love for with some new faces!

I talked about the importance of our community conservation approach and the absolute NECESSITY of involving community members in conservation efforts. LISTEN👏TO👏THE👏PEOPLE👏THAT👏LIVE👏THERE👏 and it was wonderful to see this message echoed through all the comms about work all around the world. I also added in a couple of flow charts, cos everybody loves a flow chart right?!

Thanks for having me and for organising! What an amazing event. Here’s to next year 🍻

It was so lovely speaking on the Oceans and Water Forum stage at the conference last week. I shared the stage with some amazing people doing incredible work like Clare Brook from , Belinda Bramley, and Caty Batten 🎤

It was great to share insights from grassroots conservation efforts, talk about our projects and hear about other solutions around the globe. The panel was on ‘Communicating Conservation’ so I talked about our NGO partnership with Blue, media partners like and research partnerships with people like ⭐️

I love doing events like this because it opens the platform for meaningful, change-making conversations and this event was no different. Looking forward to more like this in the future ✨

Last week I had , our Marine Biologist, staying with me and visiting partners in the UK. This was her first time out of Mozambique and it was so bloody amazing! She went to representing and then came to the UK where we drove all over the UK to see our partners and show Yud around.

Why is something like this important in Love The Oceans work I hear you ask?? Investing in your staff is crucial. The more experience they gain and you can facilitate, the more it benefits your organisation. When staff can do their job well, the organisation moves forward and positive change happens ✨

It was also really cool that a lot of our UK partners who have only really interacted with me actually got to meet one of our Moz team 🥳 and Yud got to see how the partnership side of the organisation runs.

From snorkelling in Falmouth with to media training, conferencing and mussel farming with it was action packed and we even managed to squeeze some sightseeing in between!

A GIGANTIC thank you to for making this happen. This trip was run through them and their whole team made Yud feel welcomed and looked out for, they are such an awesome team!

1. Snorkelling in Falmouth with - Yud’s first cold water experience!
2. Yud’s first Cornish pasty (she loved it)
3. Stonehenge
4. Tower of London
5. Cocktail o’clock!
6. Yud in impact report
7. Blue Marine Foundations Out of The Blue Conference
8. Mussel farms in Isle of Skye
9. Yud helping with the mussel buoys
10. Yud’s first highland cow 😂

This trip was an investment in our team and growth, as I always say

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY ❤️✨

I’ve had the privilege of building a team made up of bad ass people over at and I will be forever grateful to that team for the amazing human beings they are that make the wheels turn on all our projects and ensure maximum impact on a shoe string budget. Today I’d like to give an extra big shout out to our Marine Program Coordinator and our Marine Biologist. These women are SPECTACULAR and honestly it’s such a privilege to work with them and have them as part of our LTO family. I’m bloody proud of what we have, and will continue to achieve.

Marine conservation is often perceived as a female dominated industry, but when you get to the top, it falls back into old white males and the lack of diversity limits conservation achievements. Having more diversity means that you have people with different life experiences and different knowledge all contributing to conservation, ultimately creating a stronger conservation force.

Here’s some accounts EVERYONE should go and follow, of some incredible women I’ve had the privilege of working with or hanging out with over the years:

Feel free to tag people you think others should follow below!

✨ international friendships ✨

Working in this industry often means you end up with friends dotted all over the world. I think one of the skills you gain that isn’t ever really mentioned is maintaining those relationships. My friends know I can drop off the planet during a busy season, but my close friends know we can pick up exactly where we left off whenever we get to see each other again.

Part of maintaining those friendships is making the effort to see those friends wherever in the world you may be - I saw a saying recently ‘pouring into cups that pour into yours’. As I’ve got older I’ve definitely found myself with a smaller but closer friendship circle and I know I can count on them to have my back and vice versa.

My friendship with is a great example of this - I know I could rock up at her door if something terrible had happened and she’d always catch me, and the feeling is mutual. We’ve known each other 25years now (shout out to our parents for facilitating seeing eachother across the planet when we were kids, and letting us use their email accounts to write to eachother ❤️). There’s something so special about long terms friendships where you’ve seen eachother in every phase of life (and fashion lol) ✨

We’ve seen eachother all over the globe

What a day!! Our amazing guide took us out for an adventure with the doggos and it was so amazing 🐕 and I are both dog people anyways but this was new level cuteness!

Would 💯 recommend this experience if you find yourself in Sweden. is really well run and you can see the guides genuinely adore and care for the dogs 🥰

We shot this experience with .safaris and wow, what a place!! ❄️

Things I didn’t predict I’d do in my job ✨

This job has been an all encompassing one and there are soooo many parts of it I didn’t see coming. It’s certainly given me a diverse skillset. One of them was jewellery making. Before Christmas I quickly made up key chains and earrings for our partners and sponsors as Christmas gifts, made from our little ocean creatures we’ve made from trash off our beaches.

Running a charity that’s reliant on donations means it’s really important to let people know you appreciate them. It’s costs us virtually nothing but time and effort and we think it’s appreciated ❤️

Was making jewellery something I ever thought I’d do when I was starting this org? Absolutely not 😂

Awesome Christmas vibes at Christmas party last night ✨

Why am I wearing a VR headset? I was learning more about their educational projects and some exciting stuff on the horizon.

People always ask about how to build a successful team and push forward with conservation and the answer is simple: collaboration. We’ve been partnered with Blue for about a year and the partnership has not only enabled us to launch new projects, but also given us access to skillsets outside of our core team.

Collaborative work is such an important component to success and I think the marine industry doesn’t see enough of it. Looking forward to seeing what 2024 holds!

So I’ve decided to switch things up on here and share a bit more on my permanent grid of my professional life. As I get further into my career I hope I can shed some much needed light onto the grassroots NGO world and what it actually looks like, and my journey through my career.

Some of you know I’m currently doing a PhD at funded by One Planet and I hope to use the PhD to publish lots of papers on the work we’re doing in Mozambique and push our organisation’s mission forward. The last couple of days I’ve had the pleasure of presenting the initial plans of the phd to my colleagues at One Planet DTP. It’s been a bit of time since I’ve presented a scientific poster so it was nice to get back into it!

We get these guys washing up on our beaches here on the reg and their mesmerising 😍 they eat the jellies in the area and display the stinging cells on their skin so if you touch them they might sting you 🪼they’re one of the few pelagic nudibranch species and it blows my mind that they survive our breakers and still are alive and well when they beach. Hard core little dudes 🌊

I am not 💯 sure but I think this is a juvenile dragon wrasse I found in Fiji hanging out on this bright red seafan. What do we think? He was tiny and adorable 🥹

If it’s not a dragon wrasse…any ideas?
