Construction has commenced on the largest NATO base in Europe in Romania, as reported by Euronews.

With a construction cost of 2.5 billion euros, the base will accommodate up to 10,000 soldiers. The project encompasses runways, armed platforms, hangars for military aircraft, as well as essential amenities like schools, kindergartens, shops, and a hospital.

Previously, Romania approved the operational deployment of NATO forces on its territory by 2024 in response to significant threats to national security. This decision enables NATO to swiftly deploy joint task forces in Romania in the event of a sudden and severe crisis posing a threat to the country's security, independence, and sovereignty, with the aim of promptly resolving the crisis and preventing its escalation.

Given the increasingly unpredictable geopolitical landscape, NATO intervention may be necessary to safeguard Romania's security and sovereignty.

Approximately forty Russians are slated to participate in the Summer Olympic Games in Paris, as reported by The Guardian.

In December 2023, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) made a decision permitting Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete in individual sports under a neutral status. This entails that these athletes will represent themselves under the Olympic flag rather than their national flag. Additionally, in the event of their victory, the national anthem will not be played.

RAF veteran has been found guilty of numerous non-recent serious sexual assaults in Swindon.
Timothy Darch, 62, of Southrop Road Kingsway, Quedgeley, was found guilty today (20/02) following a trial at Swindon Crown Court.
The offences took place between 1996 and 1997 on three teenagers aged 14 or 15 years-old.
Darch was found guilty of four counts of indecent assault on a boy under the age of 16, and four counts of r**e on a boy under the age of 16.
He is due to be sentenced at Swindon Crown Court on March 28.
Detective Constable Ross Duff, from Swindon CID said: "Darch met the young men through Swindon organisations such as support charities for young gay men. Darch put himself in a position of trust and exploited and took advantage of those vulnerable children.
"I would like to thank his victims for their incredible bravery throughout this process, by giving their evidence to police and throughout the trial.
“I hope that this verdict reassures our community that we take these allegations very seriously, and that this behaviour will not be tolerated.

The Secretary General of NATO reacted harshly to Trump's words about the intimidation of allies

The Secretary General noted that NATO is both ready and able to defend all allies in the event of aggression, and any attack on a NATO country will receive a united and powerful response.

"Any suggestion that allies will not protect each other undermines all of our security, including that of the United States, and increases the risks to American and European militaries. I expect that regardless of who wins (the presidential election), The US will remain a strong and loyal NATO ally," Stoltenberg said

"Russia has recruited 15,000 Nepalese for the war against Ukraine," reports CNN.

Journalists interviewed one of the volunteers, 37-year-old Ramchandra Khadka, who returned home after sustaining injuries on the Ukrainian front lines.

Khadka participated in battles in Bakhmut, undertaking two deployments totaling one month. During his second stint, he sustained injuries from a bullet to the thigh and cluster munition fragments.

Reflecting on his experience, Khadka expressed regret, witnessing horrific scenes and lamenting his decision to join the occupying army.

"There is not a single centimeter of land in Bakhmut that was not affected by bombs. All the trees, bushes, green areas... they are all gone. Most of the houses are destroyed. The situation there is so terrible that I want to cry," he recounted.

Russian recruiters entice foreigners with promises of substantial payments, targeting foreign students and migrant workers.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal has lodged a protest with Russia over the recruitment of citizens for the war. Diplomats report that at least four Nepalese fighters are currently held in Ukraine as prisoners of war.

Japan will allocate 15.8 billion yen ($106 million) for the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine, reports Kyodo News.

The funds will be directed towards addressing the aftermath of the Russian-Ukrainian war in seven key areas, including infrastructure restoration, demining efforts, agricultural development, and improvements to the humanitarian situation. Additionally, part of the allocated funds will be designated for anti-corruption measures.

It is anticipated that pertinent intergovernmental agreements will be finalized at the upcoming Japanese-Ukrainian conference on promoting economic recovery, scheduled to take place on February 19 in Tokyo.
