Your bird in the booth's been busy creating three little festive fancies to get you in the spirit of the season!

I've been writing daily since August and people seem to like it. In fact, they insist I keep doing it. Oh and then they tell me to voice it, so that's what I've been doing.

This is the first in a whole series of little micro-stories or vignettes that I'm calling Murmurations. I hope you like it!

Aaaaaghhhh! Christmas!

Do you loathe rush, stuff, expectations?

I've spoken to a few people recently who do. I also opened conversations with friends I'd usually exchange gifts with...

⭐"Do you still want to? Would you rather not? Shall we arrange to meet up and see each other instead?"

They all thanked me for asking the question and felt comfortable enough to be honest (there are going to be more gatherings next year!).

⭐For me, Christmas is a feeling. It's a generosity of spirit. It's thankfulness, gratitude and love. And I don't want anything to get in the way of that if I can possibly help it.

⭐I'm going to try and give you that feeling over the coming week or so, by sharing a bit of (sometimes daft) human creativity.

It's a thank you. For your company, your support, your humanity and, of course, your scripts.

And if you do loathe Christmas, maybe there's something you can do, however small, to change that?

I'm not a runner. There. I've said it!

Perhaps it's a life-saver for you.

I'm a walker.
A listener.
An absorber.
No headphones.

I'd never thought of it like that before, but a light went on in this little bird's head when hearing those words. The more I think about that idea, the more convinced I am he's right.

The more years I voice
and write,
the more I play.

The more I do all of that, the deeper I go.
And the more inspiration bubbles to the surface.

But what say you? What's your experience of inspiration striking?

Young Neville is modelling a freshly grown moustache, and this little bird thought it only right to write a few words for the cause, because:

1. I've recently voiced a campaign for breast cancer, and I believe in equality.

2. This sneaky beast is messing with men she knows...

The smoothness
of a baby's
freshly washed
soft

turns
fuzzy,

grey.

Once

wayward lawn,

BOOM!
A bristly broom
upon your lip.

That uncouth

As I was baking this morning (healthy stuff to keep me going before early morning dog walks, I listened to a podcast, as I often do.

Dr Rangan Chatterjee was explaining how he'd helped someone he didn't really know how to help, simply by listening. A weekly appointment just to listen. A luxury these days, though it really shouldn't be.

And do you know what? She got better.

As a voiceover artist, I know just how important is to feel heard.

As a human being who, years ago, lost their voice for three months, twenty one years ago, I know this too (thankfully it's never happened again).

So, this week, if you just do one thing?

I look at young Neville Longbottom the studio dog and smile.

He pleads, silently, standing in a small pool of sunshine.

"Oh alright then!" I laugh, pick up his mat and put it down in that exact spot.

When a script calls for relaxed warmth this week, I'll think of Neville, basking in that golden light, sighing contentedly.

Meet Ray.

"Failure isn't the opposite of success."

According to Arianna Huffington, it's a step towards success.

A year ago, Neville Longbottom ran into a fence, so intent was he on running with every dog he saw.

He hadn't clocked that this dog was highly reactive, being trained in the next field, or that there was a fence between him and said dog.

In one fell swoop, he illustrated the story of why he (and we) had landed at the trainer's feet.

And so we began training in earnest.

😬I remember the day he chased a pigeon, almost into the road!

😬The day he ran with a greyhound and disappeared from view at breakneck speed.

😬And the time he almost ran off with another dog's toys.

But yesterday? A red letter day.

At a drop-in training session, Neville Longbottom became the stooge dog. Off lead, helping to train the other dogs at the session. Calm, focused, and a total star.⭐

"Failure isn't the opposite of success." It's another step towards it. Take it from Arianna and from Neville, too.

The other

You have to pop in

No contest, right?

ok.
My quirky strands

Neatened.

makes me feel amazing.
We don't stop laughing.

Your bird in the booth's been busy creating three little festive fancies to get you in the spirit of the season! I've been writing daily since August and people seem to like it. In fact, they insist I keep doing it. Oh and then they tell me to voice it, so that's what I've been doing.
