Keep your world consistent early on 💡

If all your characters are naturalistic, have them respond in a naturalistic way to heightened situations. If they switch from naturalism to a wacky response OUTSIDE of reality, we start to pull away from the world you've created.

Make sure each one of your characters wants something in each scene that you write. 💡

Otherwise, you're at risk of one character just being there 🤷‍♂️ to facilitate the other character being funny.

What do they want? How are they going to get it? ✨

It's SO important to plan out the beats of your episode. THEN make sure each scene is following these beats & serving your plot lines. When going through your script make sure you haven't spent too long on the scene you enjoyed the most.

We're back, and very much looking forward to reading scripts again! Entry opens for the Sitcom Mission 2023 competition in January.

So instead of watching The Sound of Music yet again this Xmas, why not fire up your scriptwriting software and work on that script you've been promising yourself you'd write 'one day'? The holiday period a perfect time to start. As the brilliant John Vorhaus says: 'Procrastinate later.'
