OX-4-Sound offers recording, production and mixing services for bands and musicians. Owned and run by Mark Gardener, OX-4-Sound are building a reputation for high end recording services, soundtracks, mixing and top quality production. Having worked alongside some of the worlds best producers over the years Mark has gained the skills and knowledge to produce records to an extremely high standard. W

orking closely with Evolution Studios in Oxford, OX-4-Sound offers the complete package, from recording and mixing to final production. Evolution Studio, which Mark uses for band recording, is equipped with a recently refurbished beautiful vintage Trident 80B classic British console which was based originally at the legendary Sawmills Studios in Cornwall and has been used to record numerous classic records.

The wonderful Mark Gardener of Ride has mastered my forthcoming three-track single ‘Annihilator’ at his studio, OX4Sound and he’s got it sounding proper wicked! I am looking forward to making it available to all. ‘Annihilator’ is releasing in May, full details coming later this week.

"While Léanie grew up "snogging posters of Ride and wanting to be PJ Harvey," she doesn't imitate her heroes and lets her songs be the way they are. “Not especially cool", she says, “but I’m really proud of some of my lyrics. Getting ‘salient verities’ into a song gave me a lot of satisfaction!"

Piano and Léanie's clear, strong voice are the primary instruments on How to Weigh a Whale Without a Scale, which stays nicely understated throughout, but you can hear just a little dreampop drift in, via heavenly harmonies and the occasional lush synth part"

Our Story

OX4 Sound offers recording, production, mixing and mastering services for bands and musicians. The studio is owned and run by Mark Gardener. Having worked for many years alongside world-renown producers, mixers and engineers over the years Mark has gained the skills and knowledge that he’s been employing over the years with his studio work which is now focused in this newly constructed studio. Ox4 Sound centres around an industry standard super analogue Solid State Logic AWS 948 Delta control console with an additional vintage Neve Kelso sidecar. There is an extensive collection of high end outboard gear vintage and new, along with an extensive collection of classic vintage keyboards, mics, guitars, pedals and a piano. Residential facilities are also available with three air B+B farm cottages located closely to the studio.

This new studio was professionally built and designed by Studio Creations (studio-creations.co.uk) Studio Creations have established themselves as one of the best studio design, installation and build teams in the UK. They continue to build bespoke studios for many top international artists alongside control and live rooms installations in legendary recording studios in the capital such as Abbey Road, Metropolis, Rak and Air studios.

“I wanted to create a high end pro studio and a relaxed creative space in a rural setting closer to my home in Oxfordshire for artists along with myself to use and eradicate the need for commuting in and out of London for a studio of comparable quality. The control room is accurate and mastering grade and the live room as with all studio creations rooms sounds fantastic for recording all instruments and vocals”
