"What you think / What you feel / What you know / To be real..." 🎵
Released in the autumn of 1996, the Cheryl Lynn-sampling dance track ’To Be Real’ became an underground classic, originating in the clubs of Sheffield where Lady Cop AKA DJ Parrot hails from. DJ Parrot’s work may be familiar to you from his Crooked Man guise, his collaborations with Róisín Murphy or his work as part of The All Seeing I. The track has recently been sampled by Toddla T & Aitch in their current hit ‘Hide N Seek.’
“And the pain's overrated, composed… but I don't know do you?” 💚
Overrated was the highly-anticipated debut single from Siobhan Donaghy, released in the summer of 2003 to positive reactions from the critics, adding a rock flavour to the signature sound developed with Cameron McVey and Paul Simm during the Sugababes 'One Touch' sessions. Preceding the release of ‘Revolution in Me’, the single peaked in the Official UK Charts Top 20 with additional appearances in the Australian, Irish and Dutch charts.
'24 Hour Party People' hit the UK charts 36 years ago this week (Anyone feeling old?) The Happy Mondays classic perfectly encapsulates the spirit of Manchester’s music scene during the late 80s and also inspired the title of the Factory Records & Tony Wilson biopic of the same name - a must watch and firm favourite of London Records HQ.

'We Call It Acieed', the debut single from D Mob was issued 35 years ago today (03/10/88). Assisted by Gary Haisman on vocals, the single peaked in the Top 3 of the Official UK Charts and topped the Billboard Dance Chart the following year.
The genre-defining track was originally banned by the BBC after Caron Keating and a smiley face T-shirted Steve Wright enthusiastically introduced the video for the song on the October 1988 edition of Top of the Pops, during an acid house backlash from tabloids. 'We Call It Acieed' is known today as a classic and key part of the UK dance music legacy.
The All Seeing I - Beat Goes On
The All Seeing I's classic album 'Pickled Eggs and Sherbert' celebrates its 24th anniversary this week! The record spawned Official UK Charts Top 40 hits 'Beat Goes On', 'Walk Like a Panther' and '1st Man in Space', assisted by Jarvis Cocker on the songwriting front and a series of guest vocalists, including Tony Christie and Philip Oakey.

'Midnight at the Oasis' turns 29!
“Stripped of the stretched jazzy gliding that typified Maria Muldaur's original, this 1974 hit is speeded up somewhat but adapts perfectly to the Acid Jazz treatment. More radical overhauls are also included for clubs, where the record is already going down a storm.” Music Week, July 1994.
This week, we’re celebrating 29 years since the release of the groovy ‘Midnight at the Oasis’ from The Brand New Heavies!

The fourth and final ‘Neon Nights’ single from Dannii Minogue turns 20 this week! Released on June 9th 2003, the single peaked in the Top 5 of the Official UK Charts thanks to its groovy radio mix by Al Stone and *THAT* mash-up. The ‘Don’t Wanna Lose This Groove’ mix saw Dannii mixing her track with Madonna’s ‘Into the Groove’ - the first time the queen of pop allegedly gave permission for such use of her work. The single sits today as a fan favourite and total Dannii classic!
