Having noticed that London seems to be the focus point for the Student Radio Association, we couldn’t help but feel that our Northern Universities deserved to hear about what the professional world of media has in store. By pooling our resources and alumnae, we aim to give something positive back to our members by bringing an inspiring networking event to them. At the same time, this is going to s
tart a conversation between northern student radio stations, turning away from any animosity and competition that may have existed between us in the past. Student radio stations are in a unique and unusual position within the radio industry and we have a responsibility to start fuelling collaboration over competition. The theme for the day is going to be about finding your future in the media and we aim to introduce students to the wide variety of careers on offer to them in the media, and hopefully look beyond the mainstream. This year three student radio stations, LSR, Forge Media (Sheffield) and Liverpool Student Radio, have combined alumni and contacts to create an industry day that answers the questions their members have about the media. This year, we're also going to be holding a student radio station round table, so our members can discuss their experiences at their different stations, and we can learn from each other.
