The Pan-African Youth Orchestra Documentary Film This documentary film is about the Pan African Youth Orchestra; documenting the amazing journey in projecting and preserving African indigenous music.

My name is Kwadwo Gyan-Apenteng also known as Kojo Sankofa, I am a Ghanaian international journalist and filmmaker based in the United States of America. I decided to travel home to Ghana, West Africa to shoot this film in support of my friend and brother Kwaku Kwaakye on his journey to raise consciousness and culture through indigenous African music from all over the African continent. tra has 26 children ranging from 6years old to 16years handpicked from various schools creating an utterly amazing traditional musical synergy ready to storm the entire world. Kweku Kwaakye has steered the Pan African Youth Orchestra set to become an international cultural ambassador and an academic project for schools around the globe. The orchestra’s instrumentation comprises of ten atentenben flutes, two gyle xylophones, and assorted traditional African drums. these young musical talents par excellence are unequivocally walking in the shadows of their predecessors, the renowned Pan-African Orchestra. The Pan-African Orchestra was founded by great Ghanaian musicologist, Nana Danso Abiam of blessed memory. The Pan African Youth Orchestra (PAYO) was established 1995 in collaboration with the National Theatre of Ghana as the youth wing of the world acclaimed Pan African Orchestra (PAO). The orchestra has represented and featured around the world as one of the most authentic and celebrated African music of our time. Opus 1 was produced by Peter Gabriel is historic record that topped the world chats for several weeks. The orchestra’s repertoire includes compositions by renowned musicologist and composer Nana Danso Abiam whose works are a clear illustration and testament of qualitative developments that has taken place spanning the last forty years of African music composition. Co Producer of the documentary film is Fara Awindor, professor of film at the National Film and Television Institute, NAFTI, Ghana.
