“So often what we are told is the ‘right’ way or the ‘just’ way is just the way that serves the best interests of the ruling classes and is often morally bankrupt. I think it is an ability to recognise this and a willingness to challenge hegemonic thinking that makes one a disruptor.” - in Disruptors 3

“At the age of 14, I experienced a traumatic incident where I was r***d, resulting in the loss of my virginity. In addition to this, I faced bullying during my time in the state school from year 7 to year 9, which led to self-harm and depression due to the traumas I had endured.
The catalyst that prompted me to start challenging the status quo was my ordeal of domestic abuse, which empowered me in ways I never imagined.” - Olivia Mundell

Olivia Mundell is Head of Phlebotomy and Training for Proactive HP, a health and wellbeing company based in the South of England.

“Becoming a mother and facing the loss of children, coupled with the lack of affordable childcare, posed additional hurdles. The government’s lack of support in addressing the exorbitant cost of childcare has significant repercussions, not just financially but also impacting the mental health of mothers, as evidenced by my struggles with postnatal depression.”

“In my first-ever HR meeting, I was told off for not tolerating sexual harassment. I distinctly remember asking why they hired me if they expected me to tolerate such blatant abuse as I wasn’t that type of person. It was made crystal clear I had to put up and shut up. I was 23 years old.” - Delyth Thomas .

Delyth is an accomplished 3x Bafta-nominated director. She’s worked on award-winning dramas and iconic family shows. Credits include The Story of Tracy Beaker, The Worst Witch, the season finale of Victoria, Silent Witness, Vera and Ben Chanan’s acclaimed series Then You Run.

“I became a barrister because I believed the justice system had the power to protect victims and hold perpetrators to account. Then, when I began practising as a barrister, I quickly learned that the system was broken, in some cases, it

“What defines me as a disruptor is my unwavering dedication to establishing spaces for women. Like many in various fields, I grappled with imposter syndrome, questioning whether I truly belonged and if I possessed enough understanding. Overcoming this initial hurdle involved recognising imposter syndrome as a sign of embarking on something new and courageous. I transformed my nerves into excitement, delving into extensive reading, attending numerous FinTech events, and immersing myself in the subject matter.” in Disruptors 3.

“Just before I turned 10, my mum had a severe stroke and became badly disabled. Things were very different after that; it
changed the family dynamic and made me hyper-aware of health and longevity, which likely contributed to my decision to
study medicine. On reflection, I don’t think medicine was a natural fit for me, but at the time it felt like the most obvious route.” - Dr Dupe Burgess, founder of .io

“I aspired to be a catalyst for change, making education my guiding light. Unfortunately, a setback occurred when my high school results mysteriously disappeared, which affected my
educational journey. Financial constraints prevented my enrolment in a private university or rectifying the situation. I was left with no option but to remain home while my friends pursued their studies. Adding to these challenges, I was struck by Bell’s Palsy that same year, paralysing half of my face akin to a stroke. This adversity altered my smile and dealt a severe blow to my fragile self-esteem. The physical change hindered my confidence, preventing me from attending events or speaking on platforms.” -

“As a young adult, I did not encounter any obstacles that I felt were unique to me because I was surrounded by such a diverse group of people and never felt different. It was only until I entered the workplace that I was awoken to race/class-based issues. I now use those experiences from the start of my career as my motivation to try to educate others, so people don’t have to experience the things I did, or at least don’t feel alone when they do.” - Danielle Antoinette Bowman

“I was in an abusive relationship. It took two years of my life. took another two for me to realise it was abusive. When we were together, I thought he was my person. He held me and, in many ways, healed me. He also hurt me, devastated me, and left me broken. My sisters helped build me back up again.”

“I recognise that not everyone has the privilege and blessing of sisterly companionship. In an age of disconnect and loneliness, when our schedules are full, our cups often overflowing and our work-life balance is all over the place, it can be hard to find that solidarity but rest assured, you can find your sisters in places when you’d least expect them.”

“The idea that you start at the bottom and work your way to the top turned out to be a myth in my reality. I saw a very specific profile calling all the shots, and a very different profile in support or admin roles. As a young person starting out in the creative sector, the best I could hope for was to be associated with a project but there was no scope for me to be supported to learn, try, and develop my skills. I had little choice but to create that for myself.” - Cheryl May Ndione

Cheryl May Ndione is the Founder and CEO of Purple Moon Drama , an organisation that sets out to empower marginalised emerging artists to access the creative industry. “There was a perception that because I am a black woman, my brand only catered to black skin. Conversely, I was repeatedly advised to concentrate on developing a brand for people who look like me because we are underserved in the industry, especially concerning makeup and hair care, to some extent. I acknowledge this to a degree. Yet, my perspective and ongoing approach have been different. I firmly believe that if we culturally confine ourselves to our immediate community, our networks become restricted. With limited networks, diverse thinking diminishes, and our customer base becomes confined too.” -

“…I began to turn in on myself at around 12 when I developed an eating disorder. Where everything felt overwhelming and I struggled to work out who to be and how to show up in the world, the eating disorder shrunk my world and my vision into what felt, for some time, like a manageable size. I developed weird eating habits and an excessive exercise regime and erected multiple walls around me to keep my regimented new lifestyle intact.” -

“Probably because of my career, I’ve always been hyper-aware of my own fertility and the timelines, as a woman, I was working with. But founding a business, especially as an all-female founding team, takes up an incredible amount of time, energy and resilience. I found myself facing a question that is so common to so many women at my stage in life—was I ready to start a family, right now?”

We spoke with Natalie Getreu, Ovarian Biologist and Co-founder of , a women’s health company supporting women from menstruation through menopause with comprehensive at-home testing, telemedicine and treatment about her personal experience on the emotional, physical and financial aspects of her egg-freezing journey.

“An egg-freezing cycle basically accelerates everything your body goes through naturally during your menstrual cycle. Normally, you only produce one egg a month, but with each cycle I underwent, we were trying to get 8 to 10 eggs to develop on each side! I could actually feel my ovaries growing—a weird sensation I did not expect.”
