Busy week on Good Mornhng Britain Times Radio, LBC and the BBC talking about interest rates and then the UK election campaign. An interest rate cut in the UK now not fully priced in by markets until November but August is still possible.

Great to be asked onto to explain what’s going on with the economy, inflation and energy prices. But as always the challenge is summarising in just a few minutes 🙂 UK output grew in November thanks to a World Cup boost in bars and restaurants but at most the economy is stagnating. Cost-of-living crisis will be a big subject on the agenda in Davos. I’ll update you more tomorrow amid the snow ❄️ *

Just about to begin a day of debate about the future of Europe’s nuclear industry in Prague. Invited to host by the Czech Republic, currently holding the presidency of the Council of the European Union. Super important debates at a time when energy security is such a huge issue, as the ban on Russian oil looms. It’s been so great to be part of European discussions once again, been chatting to Czechs, Finns, Swedes, Austrians, Estonians, Slovaks already, looking forward to sharing ideas with so many more nationalities later.

Amid the market mayhem it’s been great to film with a proper TV crew again from . Dave and Dave were back in the office again today. Makes a real change from all the TV and radio down the line appearances, though I am grateful for the virtual options given the super early starts and late finishes in recent days with BBC Newsnight and the rest. Will it calm down? Well a sense of relief is palpable on markets today but we sure aren’t out of the woods yet.

Got used to going live from the lounge for TV but filming a documentary was another level. GameStop - the Wall Street hijack is streaming now and I join Jordan Belfort and other witnesses to explain how the drama unfolded. Great team and impressive at how quickly the production crew pulled it together in Covid times.
