On a quiet Thursday morning in the middle of filming the third season of crime drama hit The Tower, Gemma Whelan invited us to her rental flat along the foggy Liverpool docks to get frank about her career so far.

Known for her steps in Game Of Thrones, Killing Eve, and Gentleman Jack — to name just a few — Gemma doesn’t let that impose at all, rather making her one of the loveliest people to have tea, biscuits, and a natter with.

We were also joined by her son, Freddie, who preoccupied himself with videos of ambulance sirens and diggers be fore giving me a helping hand with some portrait photos.

Sitting down with us at her childhood haunt , the BAFTA nominated actress considers the frivolity of imagining for a living before taking us on a tour of her new show on . Head to the link in bio to read the full story, extract below —

“My mum had so many films that she'd record off the TV, so we had everything, and I mean everything. She only had one rule which was you can watch absolutely anything whatsoever — someone could be getting their head chopped off, getting violently beaten up — but as soon as a s*x scene came on, it was getting turned off. 

Because of this, I ended up watching an incredibly broad and varied selection of films. It was one of my favourite things to do on a Sunday; pick a film, get my mum or sister to make some popcorn and just get lost in a completely different world for a while. I think it was fantasy that really let me see that, watching this as a child, the art of acting is utilising your imagination and working with things that weren’t necessarily there. And I remember thinking ‘oh that’s a job, that would be really cool to do.’”

Apple TV has just announced that the much anticipated third season of its acclaimed hit Ted Lasso will be premiering March 15th. Last November, Kola Bokinni, who plays AFC Richmond team captain Isaac McAdoo in the show, sat down with Beth Bennett to talk about what is means to be a Greyhound:

"Its message and ideals are about not settling for what you’ve been given or what you’ve been told you are. It’s about giving into that bit of attitude and proving to yourself that you can be better, whether it’s being kinder or being a better footballer, or both things together. It’s about underdogs who dust themselves off ‘together’ and, yeah they’re individual, they’re themselves off the pitch, but on the pitch they’re a collective."

"Normally, cooking for me is therapy, it is something that brings me joy - an ultimate mindfulness, it does wonders for my brain. When war started, I lost this power. I lost my power. I couldn’t find joy in life, it felt painful - even hugging my children felt painful, it felt wrong. How could I feel joy when my people couldn’t?"

Tucked away in Fitzrovia sits an intimate, eccentric venture from chef John Javier known, quite brazenly, as The Tent (At The End Of The Universe). For Issue 67, John walks through the recipe for his essential lobster dish.

He writes: "We serve the lobster with a pink radicchio salad and roasted sunchokes but in a more casual setting, it would feel just as right with a big bowl of fries."

The escape of the wild meets the comforts of home at Unyoked's Akash cabin, tucked away in the breathtaking Welsh valleys.

For our 67th Issue, Jai McIntosh writes: "Approaching the front door, passing a collection of upturned logs circled around a slightly damp fire pit, I understood the reasons why people search for these spaces. We were voluntarily marooned, surrounded by a patchwork of fields, and lacking electricity. Wonderful."
