INTRODUCING BIRMINGHAM BASED POST-ROCKERS SOLARS

SOLARS are a Birmingham based post-rock quartet with influences of metal and prog. Building from three promising EPs, Solars will be releasing their debut full length album 'A FADING FUTURE' through Glasgow's rising star label Ripcord Records.

Tightly knit from seven blistering and dynamic tracks, Solars present an energetic workout for the ears - a galore of choppy drums, off-kilter rhythms, chunky riffs and textured guitar leads. The instrumental post-rock and metal quartet have crafted a fine tapestry woven from blood, sweat and tears. A fulfilling listen that expertly balances high action musicianship with dreamy and sombre passages, exploring varying levels of looming fear, self-depreciation and personal woe.

ORME ANNOUNCE NEW EP 'NO SERPENTS, NO SAVIOURS' PRODUCED BY WAYNE ADAMS

THE UK'S SLOWEST POWER TRIO ORME PRESENT THEIR MOST SAVAGE, CRUSHING AND IMPACTFUL BEAST YET.

The Hertfordshire based trio return with NO SERPENTS, NO SAVIOURS, to be released August 23rd - without a doubt their heaviest, most obliterating and cutthroat recording so far. Engineered by coveted producer Wayne Adams (Petbrick, Wasted Death) at London's Bear Bites Horse Studio (home to TORPOR, Wallowing, GREEN LUNG), Orme have concocted this 24 minute death doom metal sculpture of violence and savagery, like nothing else in their discography before.

No Serpents, No Saviours promises to be ORME's most exhilarating and tightest performance to date - a step closer to the most brutal bands that inspire them - a 24 minute devourment that will leave listeners shell-shocked and breathless.

DIN OF CELESTIAL BIRDS LIVE AT DUNK! FEST

Leeds’ finest post-rockers Din Of Celestial Birds embarked on a short tour acting as main support for Montana based instrumentalists and A Thousand Arms labelmates RANGES, with stops at Bristol’s Rough Trade, Manchester’s Deaf Institute, and The Portland Arms in Cambridge. The two bands ended their journey with coveted slots at Dunkfestival in Ghent, Belgium – a haven for post-rock, experimental music and leftfield metal. For the Birds, this was their very first time performing outside of the UK. Both bands shared a bill with the likes of Emma Ruth Rundle, This Will Destroy You, sleepmakeswaves, Conjurer, Jessica Moss, Jo Quail and many more.

Photographer Romain Ballez has captured this special occasion in these electrifying black and white photos.

I was fortunate to catch Din Of Celestial Birds and Ranges on the Manchester leg of the tour. Din Of Celestial Birds performed right in the middle of the floor surrounded by an intimate crowd at the iconic Deaf Institute. The instrumental quintet burst with confidence and stride, storming straight into their riff monster ‘Laureate Of American Lowlife’. Their three guitar attack added so much density and vivid colour to their sound, spreading to every high corner of the room. The band played songs from their acclaimed debut album, plus earlier fan favourite ‘Rose’. A late set highlight ‘MMEC’ was particularly rousing and met with proud applause. Din Of Celestial Birds’ magical abilities to bring together exhilarating energy, emotional resonance and stirring melancholy was at an all time high, the avian quintet letting loose and looking deep in their element.

URZAH LAUNCH SHOW LIVE IN BRISTOL

Post-Sludge-Metalcore quartet Urzah are riding high off the release and widespread positive reception of their debut album The Scorching Gaze, released earlier this May through APF Records. To celebrate this momentous occasion for the band, Urzah made a true event of it, headlining a hometown show at Bristol’s Moor Brewery. The band were joined by Troy The Band, APF labelmates Made Of Teeth, fellow Bristol bruisers Row Of Ashes, This Is Real and Invictus.

DIN OF CELESTIAL BIRDS LIVE AT STRANGE FORMS

One of the UK's favourite underground DIY festivals is Strange Forms, held at Leeds' legendary Brudenell Social Club. For a number of years, promoter team Bad Owl Presents have pulled together many of the UK's finest and freshest post-rock, leftfield metal, post-hardcore, shoegaze, emo and math-rock artists across one fantastic Spring weekend.

This year's festival boasted one of the finest line-ups yet, headlined by Employed To Serve and Delta Sleep. Din Of Celestial Birds played one of the most talked about sets for the Saturday early birds. Their blistering performance was one of many stand-outs alongside the likes of CLT DRP, PLEIADES, Dystopian Future Movies, False Advertising, Gallops and French blackgaze heroes FALL OF MESSIAH, among many more great acts.

DOOM METAL TRIO ORME JOIN FORCES WITH EXPERIMENTAL MANDOLIN PLAYER WREATHS FOR A SPLIT ALBUM OF MEDITATIVE AMBIENT DRONES & BLEAK NOISE DIRGES

In opposition to ORME's widely acclaimed debut double album, the Hertfordshire based drone metal band dubbed "the UK's slowest power trio" follow up with something of a side-step, putting away the distortion pedals and drums for new explorations into meditative ambient drones. Joining them on this split album release is Northumberland resident, experimental noise artist and bowed mandolin player WREATHS. 'Convocation Upon The Ruins' brings together two daring and boundary pushing underground experimental visionaries, each with their distinct sounds and approaches, yet cut from similar influences and desires.

Convocation Upon The Ruins will be joint released by Inverted Grim-Mill Recs (CD) and Trepanation Recs (Cassette) on May 3rd, also available on Digital and streaming platforms.

POST-ROCK COLLECTIVE WINTER AT SEA ANNOUNCE 'UNFOUND' EP

'Unfound' presents Winter At Sea at their most spacious - a soft oceanic tide ebbing and flowing against the rocks in the tranquil glow of the moonlight - an EP that oozes with beautiful melodies and a comforting atmosphere. The collective find the essence of classic post-rock's focus on slowly escalating gliding guitar melodies, yet manage to keep their restraint and abstain from predictably loud crescendos. This results in a truly uplifting, wondrous and scenic listen akin to Joe Hisaishi's soothing scores to Studio Ghibli classics. Unfound was inspired by feelings of solitude and wandering lost through life without direction, but then finding like-minded souls to band together with along the way - and these feelings are truly evoked by these yearning, cerebral soundscapes and the collaborative nature that embodies Winter At Sea.

Unfound will be released Digitally and on a limited CD and Cassette run with specially designed packaging by Richard Knox (A-Sun Amissa, Gizeh Records) on April 12th 2024 through A Cheery Wave Records.

I am very sad to see that Dead Cosmonauts have called it a day. I was lucky to discover Sheffield's favourite astral post-metal band from the release of their debut EP and catch their wild, energetic live show a few times. My old band made a split single with them on 8" (yes, 8"!!!) vinyl, and I worked PR on their incredible full length album 'Parasomnia'.
