Canto Poetry Canto Poetry is an online poetry journal which aims to publish poetry that adds something new to our understanding of the world

Canto aims to publish poetry that adds something new to our understanding of the world; poems written not only with conviction, but with sensibility and musicality too. Poems that have vision ‒ are communicative, transformative, and far reaching in meaning yet written in the lyric tradition - new poems that our readers will remember and return to. A poem is this:

delicately oper

ating
upon a cataract of sense...

We are now closed for submissions – see submissions page for more details. Canto Volume one will be published as an online journal on 31st January 2014 after an online launch. Future plans include inviting guest editors to select the poems included in forthcoming volumes - and some editions will be themed. Canto was founded thanks to the legacy of Lionel Weiner, in memory of his wife Joan Weiner, who read English at the University of Exeter and who loved poetry.
