Student Television Alumni Network We are STAN, the Student Television Alumni Network, supporting members of NaSTA past and present.

Formerly known as PaSTA; until 2016 STAN was an organisation within NaSTA, and an Alumni Officer sat on the NaSTA Executive Committee as a non-executive member. In 2016 it was decided to split the two organisations, to help both bodies achieve their aims, which will in turn benefit their respective members. The role of STAN for NaSTA members is to provide you with access to alumni who have gone on

from student TV into a wide range of media related careers: television, online, film, PR, advertising, journalism and more. STAN is made up of a wide network of media professionals who have worked for the likes of the BBC, ITN, Sky, Kiss FM, MediaCom, and the London Evening Standard, to name but a few! These alumni can be available to your TV stations for a number of different things, including; networking events, skills sessions, CV advice, work experience enquiries, awards judging, or even just a quick email exchange. And the best part is: they all want to help; they want to pass on their knowledge to you guys. The role of STAN for NaSTA alumni is to facilitate the discussion and sharing of information between alumni, the administration of events for alumni, and provision of an online hub for alumni.

NaSTA Alumni Social Media Project - can you help?

The Exec are looking for participants to record a few short pieces to camera, for use on their social media channels and affiliate station communications. If you'd like to help out, please drop an email to [email protected] or post in the comments below.

Hello from the NaSTA exec team for 23/24.

For those who might not be aware, NaSTA (National Student Television Association) is a charitable organisation which aims to support the development of all affiliated student television stations and bring in the next generation of people into the industry.

Alumni Social Media Project

One of the projects we are hoping to start this year is a series of videos from student TV alumni, such as yourself, to showcase how student TV helped you in your career, as well as to offer some advice and guidance to current students. We are looking to distribute these via our social media platforms.

If you have the time and would like to be involved, we would really appreciate it if you could send over a few videos of yourself following these instructions:

Video One - How student television has helped alumni: (2-3 minutes)
A short description of who you are and your position / job role at the moment.
Involvement with NaSTA / STAN (if applicable)
A description of how you got to where you are today, thanks to student TV and beyond.
What type of projects you’ve worked on / highlights of your career.
One tip you would like to share to get working in the TV & Film industry.

Video Two - Alumni Masterclass: (2-3 minutes)
Give a short masterclass on an area of expertise you specialise in.
If you have any questions about this / guidance please feel free to get in touch and we can help out.

In addition to this, please feel free to send over any photos / videos you feel would work as supporting material alongside the topic of either video. We will be editing these videos down to make them social media friendly, so don't worry too much about length of clips.

for support of both of these. We will be editing them together so feel free to chuck anything at us!

If these can be recorded in 16x9, 1080p, in a well lit room if possible. Could you please frame yourself centre as these would be repurposed for 1x1 variants for social media.

Q&As

Another project we’d like to start this year is doing online Q&As with alumni and industry experts, that any member of NaSTA can submit questions to. Please let us know if you would be happy to be involved in this project and we will be in touch with further information.

Thank you so much in advance on behalf of NaSTA and Student TV as a whole. We really appreciate any advice and support that you are able to share. If you have any questions please feel free to get in touch.

All the best,
Max Roach
