I have been watching a lot of lectures at the moment by Academy Travel. They started during lockdown, but their content is still so varied and interesting that I am sometimes watching four lectures a week! They have both one off lectures and a series of lectures over a number of weeks. Over the last few weeks I have been to Bilbao, Leon, Burgos and Sardinia. I have been introduced to the mosaics in Ravenna and I am currently watching a series of superb lectures on Venice by Robert Veel, founder of Academy Travel. Coming up for me are lectures on Puccini and Hieronymus Bosch...but the list is long and varied! Can't recommend them highly enough. See more at https://courses.academytravel.com.au/online-lectures

Another fascinating book from Thames & Hudson! You may have beard of the Dead Sea Scrolls, but these are the Red Sea Scrolls. They are the world's oldest surviving written documents and not only that, they are connected to the building of the Great Pyramid of Khufu, nearly 5,000 years ago. Beautifully illustrated this is definitely one for your bookshelf!

A fascinating new book has recently been published by Thames & Hudson on the world's oldest surviving written documents discovered by archaeologist Pierre Tallet at the site of Wadi el-Jarf, an ancient harbour, on the Red Sea. What makes the scrolls so exciting, is that they are an account of how 'a...

Two new exhibitions at Compton Verney in Warwickshire which should be added to your list of ones to visit...Many thanks to our intrepid arts correspondent, Theresa Thompson, for bringing us these gems!

I drove home through a Nash-ian landscape. Sloping green fields, blue skies, rounded trees, and long shadows cast by the late afternoon sunshine of an idyllic English autumn. It was as if John Nash had been there before me, painting in watercolour or oil the English landscapes he loved. I had been r...

A fantastic new book from Egyptologist Garry Shaw, published by Thames & Hudson, who takes us on a journey to the major sites along the Nile. He not only describes what you can see today, but places each site within its ancient Egyptian history and includes the myths and legends of the Egyptian gods and goddess that are attached to each site. A highly recommended read!

Although travel is now opening up a little, it is still difficult to reach all the places on our bucket list. So this latest book from Egyptologist Garry J. Shaw is a welcome addition to our bookshelves. He takes us on a tour along the Nile, through a beautiful and fascinating landscape which is pop...

A new exhibition Ashmolean Museum, Tokyo: Art and Photography is as exciting as the hype around it says Theresa Thompson, TT's art correspondent. So is she right? Why not check it out for yourself - it's on until January next year.

A wonderful new exhibition showing Pre-Raphaelite drawings and watercolours opens tomorrow at the Ashmolean Museum. These rare documents are usually kept in drawers to preserve them and only seen by appointment. So don't miss this opportunity to see them - but hurry - the exhibition is only on until the 20th June.

A rare opportunity to see drawings and watercolours by the artists known as the Pre-Raphaelites at the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford. Normally such works of art are kept in protective boxes, but they are now available to view for a short time.
