If you’ve never made a product before, it can feel totally overwhelming on where to start… not to mention the confusing lingo… 😭

So from an agency that has worked with multiple brands to create beauty, cosmetic and wellness products, we’re giving you a little rundown into what you NEED to know before making a product:

✨ IT TAKES TIME
You can’t rush NPD. Being patient is the best thing you can do!

✨ LEARN THE LINGO
Understanding the acronyms will massively help you (we’ll be doing a little post on this very soon!🙈)

✨BE PREPARED FINANCIALLY
Making a brilliant product requires money. It’s a serious investment which can require you to commit to 25K bottles/ tubes etc.

✨ FORMULATIONS WILL CHANGE
It’s part of the process. Some formulations will fail their stability or compatibility tests but just know it’s part of the process and has happened to ever brand.

✨ PACKAGING
Your formulation must work with your packaging. Try and try again and most importantly be open minded to different packaging options.

✨ COLOUR MATCHING WONT BE PERFECT
It’s impossible to get the same colour across different materials. Always allow a 10%+- tolerance.

✨ GIVE HONEAT FEEDBACK
If you’re not happy, don’t love it or want to explore something else, give feedback to your suppliers or to us. We want to create you a product that you LOVE so if it doesn’t tick the boxes, then give feedback sooner rather than later.

So much of a product sale comes down to the brand, especially within beauty.

And it’s true, your product could be amazing but if your brand and its position doesn’t align with your customer then the chances of your customer finding your brand and more importantly, purchasing, are slim.

So how can you leverage your beauty brand?

👉🏼Nail your branding.

Make sure it aligns with your customer; which brands do they love most, what lifestyle are they dreaming of.

👉🏼 Understand your position within the market
Where do you fit in the beauty market and where do you want to fit.

Top Tip: look at your competitors. Might sound controversial but by really looking at your competitors you can see what works and what doesn’t.

“I can’t sell my NPD” 😫

This is such a BIG struggle for many businesses that sell a product online and the reason why there NPD doesn’t sell out (or even makes multiple sales) is because they miss the crucial stages of selling and jump to the launch…

Selling your NPD Launch plan needs to have these three stages mind…

👉🏼PRE LAUNCH (the hype phase)
👉🏼LAUNCH (the sell phase)
👉🏼POST LAUNCH (the nurture phase)

You need to make your NPD totally irresistible for your customers, give them and show them WHY they need it and HOW they can use it.

Then KEEP showing this throughout your launch phase and post launch phase.

It’s days like these that I feel so grateful I work for myself and can care for my fur baby✨

Rolo was super poorly last night and meant that me (& Will) were up most of the night looking after him and cleaning up 🧼

So today has been SLOW, we’re both running on broken sleep, and to make matters more difficult I’ve decided to do a cleanse in preparation for my hen do 🐓 😂 (starving Marvin over here!)

But 3 months ago I was in full time employment and if Rolo was unwell I would have still been expected to work and go into the office, leaving me stressed about Rolo, completely exhausted and not producing my best work or been forced to lose out on pay…

So although I’ve not done much (only “priority” bits), I’m so thankful that I’ve been able to look after Rolo without having to lose out on pay or leave him for hours.

We’ll try again tomorrow ✌🏼
