Colchester Library is about to be refurbished. When it’s complete, residents can look forward to a smart new look and enhanced provision.

To enable this to take place, the library will close from Autumn 2024 until summer 2025. It will remain open throughout this year’s Summer Reading Challenge. While the library is closed, Greenstead, Prettygate and Wivenhoe Libraries will open for longer hours to compensate. There will be Sunday opening at Prettygate.

What a shame.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of The Flag Wivenhoe, effective immediately. After much deliberation and consideration, the decision to close our doors has been made following the dissolution of the business partnership between the shareholders.  

Since opening, The Flag has become a beloved part of the community, known for its exceptional dining experience, beautiful rooms and commitment to quality. The success we’ve enjoyed is a testament to the dedication of our team and the loyalty of our patrons, for which we are profoundly grateful. The decision to close has not been made lightly.

Unfortunately, it transpired that the shareholders had very conflicting visions for the business. Despite numerous efforts to find a resolution, they have been unable to reconcile their differences leading to a challenging and untenable operating environment. The staff have been deeply committed to the business and supportive despite the ongoing situation making this outcome even more difficult and heartbreaking.

To our valued customers, thank you for allowing us to serve you. We apologise for any inconvenience this closure may cause and appreciate your understanding during this time.  

To the dedicated team who have made this journey unforgettable - your support has meant the world, thank you so much for all you have done.   As we close this chapter, we look forward to new beginnings and we hope you will join us in supporting our future ventures.
