ARE CAMERA BRANDS LYING TO YOU?

If they're suggesting that buying their latest and greatest computerized box will ensure your photos look awesome, then yes.

The camera does nothing without a knowledge of what you're actually doing with it. It can ASSIST in some ways, but that's as far as you'll want it to go.

If you WANT to let computers or AI do your creating for you, then sit back, lay down, do nothing. I'm sure that's fun.

But if YOU want to create great photos, know what you're doing, feel of pleasure and satisfaction of having done it yourself, then actually you just need some knowledge and a basic camera that works.

Travelling is the best thing in the world.

You can be so stuck on a constant routine idea/problem like "oh I need to set aside 1 hour this week to get my cat neutered" that you can't even comprehend that someone else somewhere else has a completely different set of ideas/problems which THEY consider to be "a big deal".

But short of going to another part of the world, one can start by just LOOKING at other people.

Every great story ever written or photograph taken came from outward OBSERVING, not inward-staring bu****it.

Try it sometime. There's cool s**t to be seen there, I swear.

Anyone saying that you "need a good camera" to take professional-looking photos is either bullsh*tting you or simply doesn't understand photography.

This photo was taken with a $250 Canon 50D (released in 2008), a $100 Canon 50mm 1.8 (the cheapest lens they make) and an $80 flash and $100 softbox.

That's paying less than $600 for "pro" quality photos. And cameras they tell you to buy right now are averaging $1500 (without a lens)

Don't suck the marketing d*ck and just get educated instead.
