The Chronicles of Narnia (BBC).

In 2005 the Chronicles of Narnia film series began with The Lion the Witch and the wardrobe, this was the first time the films could be seen on the big screen and I personally think they are incredible. Unfortunately one or more of the many things that can go wrong with making films occurred and only three of the books were made into films.
These films may have been the first Narnia blockbuster movies but they weren't the first time Narnia could be seen on the television. As a kid I vaguely remember an animated version of The Lion, the witch and the wardrobe, but what I remember clearly (or so I thought) was the BBC adaptation which ran from 1988 - 1990 and covered four of the books. Looking online you can see how many awards it won including best make up and best costume and in my memory it really did deserve them. Skip forward in time to about 2012 and I now have two sons and I saw the BBC Narnia DVD box set and told the wife we have to get it because it's amazing did you know they actually used a real lion? Two minutes into watching it I realised my memories weren't quite as accurate as I thought and that real lion was in fact a puppet.
For anyone who has never seen it, think about the old Dr Who episodes and how they were filmed and you are in the right area. In fact Tom Baker is even in the latter ones.
Although I enjoyed it as a kid I think any children watching this today will wonder if it was made hundreds of years ago.
For now the best way to introduce Narnia to children is through the books or the three movies already mentioned.
Netflix are due to release a Narnia series in the future.
