🌶 Spicy Blood Orange Margaritas with Chilli Salt
These are delicious, fiery and perfect as a winter warmer or as a valentines drink!
It’s a great way to use the blood oranges that are starting to make an appearance. The chilli salt gives the sharp and sweet flavours an added kick, and they’re a lot of fun to make!
❤️ Ingredients - makes 2
For the margaritas
- 60ml silver tequila
- 30ml Cointreau
- 40ml fresh blood orange juice
- 30ml lime juice
- 2 slices of lime to garnish
- Ice
For the chilli salt
- Salt (I used Himalayan salt)
- 1 chilli, finally chopped
For the chilli-Infused simple syrup (makes enough for 6)
- 100ml water
- 100g sugar
- 4 chillis sliced in half
❤️ Method
1. To make the simple syrup, add the sugar, water and chillis into a pan and bring to a simmer until the sugar has dissolved. Remove from the heat and leave to stand for 20 minutes. Remove the chillis and set aside to completely cool.
2. In the meantime, grind the salt and chopped chilli together and spread onto a plate. Run a wedge of lime down one side of a glass and roll over the salt so it sticks to the glass.
3. Fill a cocktail shaker with the tequila, Cointreau, blood orange juice, lime juice, 30ml of the simple syrup and ice and shake for several minutes.
4. Fill the salted glass with ice and strain in the cocktail
5. Garnish with a slice of lime

Sunrise Shakshuka for a little weekend brunch inspo 🌞
Shakshuka is a good idea anytime of the year, but it’s warming, yolky deliciousness tastes even better on a lazy winters morning. Bonus points if it’s on a Sunday.
This one uses turmeric, honey and golden tomatoes which adds lots of flavour and brightens up a grey January!
You can use red tomatoes and green peppers instead if it’s easier, it’ll be just as delicious no matter the colour!
🍳Ingredients
- 2 onions, chopped
- 250g yellow cherry tomatoes
- 2 yellow or orange bell peppers, diced
- 2 garlic cloves, pressed
- 2 free range eggs
- 1 chilli, chopped
- 1 tbsp cumin
- 1 tbsp turmeric
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp honey
- Fresh coriander, roughly chopped
- 50ml water
- Sourdough bread to serve
1. Heat the oil in a skillet over a low to medium heat and add the peppers, stirring occasionally until soft
2. Add the onion, tomatoes, garlic, cumin, turmeric, chilli, honey and cook for 10 minutes, stirring frequently
3. Pour in the water and leave to simmer for around 20 minutes or until it has reduced and the sauce has thickened
4. Check the flavour and add more cumin, salt and pepper if necessary
5. Make 2 wells in the sauce and break an egg into each one
6. Cover the skillet and let the eggs cook briefly until the whites have settled. I find it’s best to undercook them slightly, as they will continue to cook once removed from the heat.
7. Once the eggs are to your liking, remove from the heat and sprinkle over the coriander and serve with buttery, sourdough bread
Happy new year from me and this little lady ✨ and hello from a merry house that’s still finishing up cheese, playing board games and popping another cork this eve. It’s been such a perfect week, doing nothing much but enjoying time with family.
I hope you’ve all had a lovely Christmas and the days inbetween. By far the best gift for me has been another Christmas with Maisie ♥️
Scroll for some Christmas moments, lots of red ribbon and a photo of little Jack who was missed so much this year ♥️
Have a good one folks! And see you in 2024 🍾✨
My weird and wonderful menagerie of space explorers and deep sea dwellers. Minus the newest additions that made the tree yesterday - a chocolate croissant, caviar, bubblegum machine and a macaron!
It’s a collection that gets bigger and more boujee every year! Which one’s your favourite? 🪲🛸🌜🐊🌶️🪐👄
A few recent autumn walks 🍂🍁
The decs may be going up tomorrow but I’m still making the most of all this incredible colour. These trees get decorated first ✨
Postcards (and pumpkins) from the English countryside 🍂🎞️
Everything looking extra magical in autumn! Halloween is probably the one calendar event I don’t have a themed box of decorations for, but I will admit the displays this year have been pretty magical!
Seeing the variety of squash and pumpkins at Barrington Court has made me want to get an allotment and grow my own next year. No carving or painting, just a huge assortment of weird and wonderful pumpkins and stripy, warty friends.
Oh, and squash soup is on the cards this week. Lots and lots of squash soup.

What a way to savour the arrival of autumn 🍂
This feast at was seriously special. Wild food and sustainably focused dishes served up amongst the beautiful Somerset countryside.
Owners Tom and Pippa are hugely passionate about the abundance of local produce that surrounds them, whether that’s through neighbouring suppliers or food grown and reared on their farm.
Every ingredient used has its own story, with wild food taking centre stage. Chef Tom forages from the land and hedgerows to create delicious dishes that celebrate the changing seasons. It was great to learn about ingredients that often get overlooked, and then get to taste them in sensational dishes. Dandelions have taken on a whole new meaning!
The stand out for me was the fig leaf Panna Cotta, which hands down is the best one I have ever had!
Here's everything we enjoyed, and a taste of their future feasting menus👇🏼
- Pennard Hill Farm Charcuterie, bread, pickles
- Smoked Pennard Hill Farm mutton, seaweed, rock samphire
- Exmoor partridge, smoked quince aioli
- Wood pigeon, blackberry, elderberry, cobnuts
- Gothelney pork, sage, lemon
- Onion squash, Westcombe ricotta, wilted dandelion, pangratatto
- Fig leaf panna cotta, wild fennel grapes, Tuscan oil, burnt fig leaf salt
The first of their feasting nights starts on the 21st of October and I have a feeling they’re going to be very popular. An absolute must for Somerset dwellers and visitors!

- Filling up my kitchen with harvest goods from the farmers markets
- Many many slices of apple cake
- Maisie using me as a hot water bottle and being more cuddly then ever 🐶
- Sunday roast potatoes
- Foraging for sloes and blackberries
- Thoroughly recharging my social battery
- All the national trust gems like Barrington court, Stourhead & Montacute house

This one recently celebrated a pretty BIG birthday 🩷 and I am so so grateful for every single one I get to spend with her. My little best friend and constant shadow, I honestly don’t know how something so tiny can fill my life with so much joy.
She loves her walks and jumping around in the kitchen when I’m cooking. I wish I had her energy most days! Maisie you are INCREDIBLE 👑
I didn’t make elderflower cordial this year, but my phone did gift me some special photos from previous seasons 🌿 Swipe to see my little foraging buddy keeping me company 💛
Every time I spotted elderflower last month, guess who I thought of. Lovely reminders everywhere. Jack you are SO missed.
Flowers of June at Barrington Court 🦋🌼🌿
Photos from lots of sunny visits this month, and every week the gardens and meadows change so much, they’re almost unrecognisable.
I’ve accidentally made myself a sort of flower diary of this place through 10+ years of taking photos of the gardens, so now I rush here at very specific times to catch the best of what’s growing, and the next few weeks are going to be spectacular!
Sometimes I’ll just head here with a blanket, a book and Maisie, get an ice cream (and a pup one for Moo) and we relax in the woodland for the afternoon. But often I come here with my camera and snap away at everything as if it’s the first time I’ve ever visited.
I’m slowly getting back into shooting 35mm so hopefully (assuming my £4 charity shop find actually works) I’ll have some film photos to share soon too!
The poppies are out at the moment and it will soon be hollyhock season, followed by the dahlias. But one of my favourite moments is always early June when meadow wild flowers are tall enough to peak over the grass and it’s just sparkling with dragonflies, bees and butterflies. This year I’ve never seen so many!
Have you visited Barrington before?
📍National Trust Barrington Court, Somerset
The kitchen garden of my dreams at Near Bath 🌿 🐝
Back in Spring I spent a day with The Pig team, exploring the grounds and learning all about what the gardeners are growing for the chefs to cook up. It’s such a paradise for foodies!
Whether it’s the bee hives, the greenhouses or the mushroom house, you can tell that so much knowledge and care is poured in to producing such a treasure trove of British, seasonal ingredients.
Of course the best part is that it’s turned into delicious dishes to feast on! Food is centred around a plot to plate philosophy, so everything is either grown or reared on the grounds or can be sourced within an impressive 25 miles!
🐷 Here's what I pigged out on:
🌿 Hand rolled Pappardelle, parsnip, Wild Chive & Toasted Hazelnuts
🥚 Hock Eggs & Colman's Dressing
🧅 To***co Onions
🥃 The most delicious spring cocktail
☕️ Tea and piggy fours
The garden looks even more incredible now, and the menu is making the most of those early summer flavours. Highly recommend a visit to this beautiful place 💛

🌸🌼 The story of when I grew edible flowers for the first time and everything I did with them:
🌸2 - Day 1 of adopting and planting my baby violas
🌼3 - One month later (proud viola mumma)
🌿4 - Time to start harvesting
🧁5 - I used them to decorate cakes and puds
🥗6- And salads and dips
🪩7- I pressed lots and wore them on my face at festivals
🍸8 - and they made my laziest cocktails faaaancy
🍾9 - I even brought a little pot of them to picnics and drinks with mates
And then one day, they all just died for no apparent reason. The end
🌸
Some of the many, many blooms to look out for at Barrington Court over the next few months 🌿🌼
Happy Easter from me and my Easter bunny 🐰
Reminding myself that the sunny weekends spent in beer gardens are on their way…but if they could hurry up a bit that would be fab 🌞

📍 Beckford Canteen, Bath
I’ve been seeing so much about recently and now I know why everyone’s raving about it!
The interiors are GORGEOUS, an intimate and relaxed space that effortlessly fills up with sunlight. I love the collection of antique green plates hanging on the wall!
We ordered most of the small plates to share (highly recommend doing this) and the flavours and texture of everything was fantastic. I’ve been thinking about the ham hock, rarebit and panisse ever since. It was followed by the pork collar, impeccably cooked and served with delicious creamy wild garlic. And the puds - heaven.
Here’s everything I had and loved 👇🏼
- Rarebit & pickled onions
- Panisse, wild garlic & trout roe
- Beef tongue crumpet
- Beetroot, goats curd & walnut
- Ham hock & jowl terrine
- Pork collar & wild garlic
- Confit potatoes
- Chocolate, hazelnut & brown butter
- Clotted cream & rhubarb
- 🍷Claret ‘Bordeaux Superieur’ from the
Definitely a new favourite 💛

🌿Cheese and wild garlic scones
The rain has kept me away from picking wild garlic but I am already thinking about making these again. Delicious cheesy, garlicky savoury scones!
🌿 Recipe below 👇🏼
- 450g Self raising flour
- 4 tsp baking powder
- Pinch of salt
- 1/2 tsp mustard powder
- 180g butter

1. Preheat the oven to 200C
2. Mix together the flour and baking power and rub in the butter until it looks like breadcrumbs
3. Stir in the garlic, grated cheese, mustard and salt, then gradually add the milk to make the dough
4. Roll out the dough and use a cookie cutter to stamp out circles
5. Place on a baking sheet and lightly brush with milk & top with a sprinkling of grated cheese
6. Bake for 10-15 minutes until golden brown
Breathing a HUGE sigh of relief today. Maisie had surgery yesterday (a few weeks before her 19th birthday!) and pulled through 💛 she is amazing!
On Wednesday the decision was made to remove her remaining teeth. One of the challenges with both her and Jack has been the decisions around their dental. When they arrived at the rescue centre at 14, their teeth were in hell of a mess and they had to have lot of them removed. For Maisie, that was over 5 years ago now, and despite both me and her vets trying so many things to protect her remaining teeth, the only option now was an extraction. Because of her age, the anaesthetic was a risk, and the 3 teeth to come out were not straightforward.
I think this is always the hardest part of owning a dog, especially when they’re older, making these decisions, weighing up the risks, trying to do the best thing for them. But whatever the outcome and as heartbreaking as it would be for me, making sure she’s pain free is the priority. I’ll be honest and say the worry of this hit me hard, especially going through it so soon after losing Jack. The fear was immense, and waiting for the call to find out if she made it was awful.
But, she did! And amazingly well. Maisie is completely toothless now (recommendations for VERY soft treats welcome!) and it’s such a relief she won’t have any discomfort. And I’m looking forward to actually sleeping and eating again 🫠 Lots of extra cuddles and TLC for Maisie this week 💛
Starling murmurations on The Somerset Levels 🌙
This was magical! Hundreds of thousands of tiny starlings put on this dazzling display just before dusk as they settle into the reed beds across the Avalon marshes. I used to pass this on my commute to work, but I’ve never stood directly under it all. The noise was incredible!
This is just a few seconds of what was so much to take in, but the whole sky dance went on for nearly half an hour!
This is one of the last displays until next winter, with the best times to see them between November and February. If you’re up for a chilly walk across the levels before dawn, apparently seeing all the starlings leave the reeds in the morning is also breathtaking.

Maisie goes to the groomers 🌸 curls may be gone but still as cute as ever!
these two ❤️ I was going to post this yesterday but as soon as I started going through these photos I fell down a bit of a (happy & emotional) memory rabbit hole, but here we are 😅
One of my favourite ever memories will always be seeing these two curled up together, every single afternoon nap or late night sleep.
The first photo is Jack and Maisie on one of their last beach trips together, and the 2nd photo is one of their first beach trips together. In other photos you can see Jacks gorgeous heart patch 😍 Definitely need to get these framed ❤️
I miss seeing them curl up together so much, but I’m very thankful to have seen such a beautiful bond. And honestly, I loved looking at these photos and just remembering Jack ❤️
Lots of extra cuddles for Maisie this week, and lots of time spent thinking about their special friendship ❤️

A very happy new year from me and this little lady ✨ Our 5th Christmas together, and it’s been magical 💛 Cheers you lovely lot! See you in 2023 🥂
This evening has been spent watching Home Alone (the BEST Christmas film), curled up under a blanket and snacking on mince pies and crispy roasties. As far as nursing hangovers go, this is a pretty good way to do it.
Hope you’ve all had a merry weekend! ✨

Christmas Rocky Road Wreath ⭐️✨ How MAGICAL does this look? And yet it’s SO easy to make. I love a chunky slab of rocky road and this festive twist is absolutely delicious. It can also be easily cut up so guests have something to take home with them ✨ 300g dark chocolate 200g milk chocolate 200g butter 5tbsp golden syrup 200g Oreos, crushed 200g mixed peel 200g Glacé Cherries, halved 180g mini marshmallows 1/2tsp mixed spice 150g white chocolate Edible gold shimmer dust Maltesers and gold stars to decorate 1. Grease and line a 9 inch cake tin with baking paper, and place a lightly greased jar or tin in the centre of it. 2. Melt the butter and syrup in a pan over a gentle heat, stirring in the chocolate until it’s melted. 3. Stir in the mixed spice before taking the pan off the heat. Stir in the Oreos, mixed peel, cherries and marshmallows. 4. Carefully spoon the mixture into the tin, holding the jar in place. Flatten the top of the mixture until it’s even and then cover and pop in the fridge for at least 3 hours. 5. Run a knife around the edge of the chocolate wreath to dislodge it from the tin, and do the same around the jar. 6. Decorate by melting the white chocolate and using a piping bag to go around the wreath, topping with gold stars. Put the maltesers and edible gold dust into a bag and shake until they’re coated.
