ANNOUNCEMENT...!!! 🤩 ⛵ ♥️
This year, and hopefully onwards, we will be much more closely aligned with the The Royal Air Force Yacht Club, based on the Hamble River, near Southampton, UK. We will also, where possible, be tracking their events calendar for the year (because it's outstanding!).
I'm personally a member here, but stay tuned... I hope Sailing Sibongile crew will be able to enjoy some benefits on actual sailing days.
They are a great club. Have traditions, but not only for military people. And they encourage community, and celebrate sharing the love of sailing.

All that said... Sailing Sibongile's first formal event is not with the RAFYC, not even in the Hamble area, and probably not even sailing... 😅🤪

- Sailor's Brunch, at Ocean Cafe Portishead
- Why??? My birthday, and 'start' of the season.

Happy New Year Y'all !!!
The end of last year was a little quieter than expected... We were focussing on small groups and personal connections, and general Facebooking :-D
So, now we are looking towards Easter, and the plan for the next season.
Sibongile's masts are up, and Jon Seagull has/is having a little bit of work done too, under the watchful eye of Pav at Rigit UK.
Please help us grow out YouTube channel, and also the page, by sharing this. It would be great to reach more people with the message we are sharing to promote happiness.

In the following days I'll start sharing details of the plans for 2025.
Hopefully, with your help, Sailing Sibongile will be globally more active. 😎🥰

🎉🥳♥️⛵ ...CHRISTMAS has come EARLY...🎄🎅🤪
The guys at Rigit UK stepped both new masts for Sibongile today 😎🙏 ⛵
Sooo... We could, theoretically, go sailing tomorrow. 🤔 (how many meetings do I have?) 😅

Now just got to secure the push-pit, complete the guard wires, wash the sails and change the sliders, repair the cockpit well and cockpit seat, fix a few leaks, install new batteries, install day tank, empty old tanks, and install the new engine, and new prop.

😎 ⛵ 👍... The boys at Rigit UK and I have been working on Sibongile, and we're pretty close to having the masts up.
They have made custom mast bases, and installed a couple of new chain plates, whilst I have been nodding as if I know better. 😋 😅 🤪
Although, I have taken off the old ugly guard wires, and turning some decommissioned standing rigging into new guard wires. (it's gonna look great, with some 7mm wires, I think) 😎
So, we're hoping she'll be able to sail under her own canvas by Christmas day. 🤘🤓 ⛵
So then we just need to install the new inboard engine. 🤞

If we get the new rigs up, who fancies a Boxing Day sail?

♥️⛵ ... The most powerful thing of what Sailing Sibongile does, is the ripple effect of helping change the world for one person.

Depression, PTSD, etc can result in catastrophic situations for someone, and for those who stay behind. History often repeats itself among the friends, but especially the family, and especially still the kids.
(it's why I decided to stick around and fight for myself, and then for others)

But even, showing someone that we care about them can (and often does) allow them to make a positive difference in the next person's life.
It's very powerful.

So, every day... You can chose who to be on that day.
Choose kindness!

Morning... 😊 ⛅
It's been a little quiet, but today the team at Rigit UK unstepped Sibongile's main mast, craned out the rusted paperweight, and lifted in the new little pacemaker.
(an amazing team of followers previously helped remove all the sails, running rigging, and booms, and unstep the mizzen).
So we're ahead of track for the new rig, and engine replacement... 😎

Pav and the Rigit team have been so good with this project. 🙏
So, the ambition of launching Sibongile, along with the "Sisters of Sibongile" initiative, at Easter is well on track.

They mingle not with their laughing comrades again.
They sit no more at familiar tables of home.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning...
We will remember them.

Rememberance Weekend. 🙏
War is an awful thing. For both sides. We see too much loss, and there are young & innocent lives lost on all sides. People who would prefer not to be in the fight, but convinced or forced by those who won't go that they 'must' go.

So, for all the soldiers, airmen, and seamen who have died needlessly, I say "I wish you didn't have to give all".
For those who gave all in opposition to tyranny, evil, and oppression, I say "Thank you, with all my heart".

👋😎...Quick Update...❤️⛵⚒️
We've been working on Sibongile recently, and with the help of some great people, we've got the sails off, mizzen mast down, and the booms off. The old rusted lump that used to be an engine block is ready for lifting out. 👍
So the next step (starting today) is to prep the new masts, and then we can book the crane to lift the old main and the old engine out, and lift the two new masts on, and the new engine in. All in one session. 💪😁
Reuben, Rigit UK, and I will be here all day today and tomorrow (at Itchen Marine in Southampton), if anybody wants to pop down and help (or get some experience). 🙏

So... This bit of fun landed on my plate this week (actually, it landed in the water) ... 😅 🤪
The top of one of the main winches popped up into the sky, onto the coach roof, and promptly into the water, and to the bottom of the Severn Estuary, at the end of last weekend's Holms Race. (that's the risk with 50yr old things... They just might break if you push them too hard. 😋😂)
So now, Daniel, Harry, Reuben, and yours truly, have the great task of dealing with winch replacements AND droopy headlining.
Thankfully, I already bought a couple of replacements last year, and been meaning to do this job.

Anybody else want to share the experience?

We're going to move Jon Seagull back to her mooring on Saturday the 12th of Oct, hopefully with a beautiful new push-pit and guard rails. (courtesy of the good folks at Rigit UK) 😎
- From: Southampton, UK
- To: Warsash, Hamble, UK
- Time: TBC, depending on the weather/crew, etc
We have a couple of crew already, and space up to 4x more.
Would anybody like to come for a day sail and help pick up a slimy mooring line?
(I'm really selling it, aren't I ?!?). 😅🤣

🌧️⛵...MORNING...albeit a wet morning. 😅
Quick update/request:
- Had a wonderful sail yesterday (I didn't post about it, because it was privately requested). 😊
- Friday's presentation went really well. Even if only one or two were inspired by our "Protect Your Happiness" message, then that's a win as far as I'm concerned. We're hoping to take more of an "each one teach one" approach to getting the word out. 🤗.

I think I screwed up the recording, however, so I might either re-do it or post it as is. I'll review it as soon as I can. 😇

There's a handful of jobs backing up on Jon Seagull, and a small list of jobs developing on Sibongile.
I'm going to be working on the boat/s next Sunday, and hopefully have some time in the afternoon for a quick sail.
If anyone, reasonably local to Southampton, would like to help out, and go out for a couple of hours afterwards, please let me know.
