Man, this feels long ago. In January I spent an afternoon photographing in . It's become somewhat of a tradition for me - I've been doing it since my 2nd year at university. Here's my favourite from the bunch.

Last year and I had the privilege to march in the parade. It was my first pride festival, and marching was a dramatic way to experience it. Bold self-expression and fearless energy poured from everyone, from the most timidly dressed to the leather-clad nuns. Being there, taking it all in, really helped me to understand why it's called Pride.

Another image from a shoot, this time from my little apartment in Manchester. It's difficult to shoot studio when you either A) have no access to a studio or B) have no access to funds to hire said studio. However, you can do a lot with a window, a reflector, and a couple of speedlights. I learnt at university that basic lighting is easy, but making it beautiful is a dark art. I always look to , who is one of my biggest photographic inspirations. His ability to cinematically light any environment never ceases to amaze me. If you want to fill your feed with jaw-dropping photography, you should follow him.

2 years ago I forced my dad to drive me to a hill overlooking Grasmere. It was freezing cold, we were both pretty tired, but it was a really nice moment for me. My dad really engaged with the process, making suggestions, keeping an eye out for cars so we could capture the winding trail of light. This image is a stitching of 6 photographs and since taking it I have wanted to print it at its full size to really show the small details.

I had the opportunity to head behind the scenes at and photograph their process, from raw cuts to finished smoked meats. Half of their space was taken up by a huge smoker, designed and built by Robin and her husband. She only uses aged oak to make her meats, and uses a traditional family recipe for the rub. Man, I'm hungry now.

This is Taffy Thomas, MBE, photographed on 35mm film for a project about community for my degree. For many children who grew up in The Lake District, Taffy Thomas is an icon. He holds the title of the UK's first-ever Laureate of Storytelling and he is the founder of Tales In Trust, a brilliant resource centre for storytelling. He performs stories from memory at the idyllic Storyteller's Garden in Grasmere. I have many, many fond memories of sitting on wooden logs, listening to him tell fantastical stories from across the globe. Hand on heart, he's is one of the reasons I am a photographer today. Hearing his stories helped me understand how powerful they can be, and made me want to be a storyteller myself. So for obvious reasons, I like this photo.

Was wonderful to work for this project. More photos to come!
