Scientists hail importance of Port Erin marine lab

Isle of Man to freeze electricity prices
⚡️A plan to freeze electricity prices could see winter bills on the Isle of Man become among the lowest in Europe.
The Manx government is set to hold them at their current rate until March next year by loaning the island’s public electricity provider Manx Utilities up to £26m.💷

Scientists search Isle of Man seabed for carbon stores
🌱Marine scientists on the Isle of Man have been documenting their efforts to survey the Manx seabed for natural stores of carbon.
The project aims to build a map of where blue carbon is found so that those areas can be protected. 🌊
It is part of wider plans by the Isle of Man Government to reduce carbon emissions.

Isle of Man to change blood donation rules
Rules preventing gay men from donating blood on the Isle of Man are set to be changed next year.
The Manx government said it would look to change eligibility criteria for donors and adopt a similar approach to the UK.
It comes after a call for change in the rules by Manx Netflix star Joe Locke.

Homes on the Isle of Man have been seriously damaged during a storm in the early hours of Monday morning
One property in Douglas was struck directly, causing the roof to collapse, while others were left without power.

Team Isle of Man returns from the Commonwealth Games
Team Isle of Man has returned home after competing in front of packed crowds at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
The 34-strong team competed under the Manx flag across eight different disciplines, with a host of new personal bests and Manx records set.

Manx gay rights campaigners welcome police apology
An apology for the way Manx police enforced historical laws criminalising homosexuality has been made in a letter by the Chief Constable Gary Roberts.
It was read out by members of the Isle of Pride committee at a private event ahead of the festival’s return at the weekend.
Those who fought a 30-year campaign calling for the police to say sorry have welcomed the letter.
