Should the speed limit in Bampton be reduced to 20mph?
There is a current legal consultation being carried out by OCC to reduce the speed limit in Bampton from 30 down to 20.
The consultation closes on the 19th August 2022
Aston, Curbridge with Lew, Clanfield and Brize Norton have also applied for this reduction in the first phase to be implemented soon and Ducklington and Alvescot in the following phase of work. OCC have put aside funding from their budget for this as they are seeking to reduce the speed in built up areas in Oxfordshire down to 20 mph – parishes across all 4 rural districts have applied.
Bampton Parish Council are in favour of this reduction - to make your views known follow the link to complete the survey by this Friday.
Oxfordshire County Council wants to make our built environments safer and more attractive places to walk and cycle. To enable this, 20mph speed restrictions are being used to help promote alternative modes of transport for local travel. Further details on how the

REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY. On behalf of Bampton Parish Council
Bampton Parish Council encourage all residents to stay safe and to commemorate Remembrance Sunday with 2 minutes silence on their own doorsteps at 11am.
There is no Remembrance Sunday parade or gathering at the War Memorial and no combined laying of wreaths by the council and organisations in Bampton. Wreaths will be laid in memory of those lost in war and conflicts by the Bampton Parish Council, the Royal British Legion and other Bampton groups and organisations but at different times and without formality during this period of lockdown.
It is hoped that a Remembrance Day church service will be able to take place via Zoom on personal computers, laptops, phones etc. If you would like to take part in this service on Zoom starting at 10.30, please contact the Vicar, Reverend Janice Collier, [email protected], who will send you the details you will need to join in.

BAMPTON PARISH COUNCIL
COVID-19 UPDATE
We know people have been asking about how they can use the Recreation Ground and Play Parks in Bampton. The Trustees have always tried to follow the Government’s guidance and will continue to do so. The latest guidance on the relaxation of the lockdown does allow some sports to start but as each location is different they are fairly general. The Trustees discussed how we can protect our staff and our visitors and we can tell you that:
The Tennis Club and the Trustees want tennis to start as soon as possible and are already liaising to see how this can be done.
The latest Covid-19 Secure guidance specifically says You will still not be able to use areas like playgrounds so the Play Parks will remain shut.
It also says You can only exercise with up to one person from outside your household – this means you should not play team sports so the Multisport court will remain locked.
As there can be no team sports the need for car parking space is limited so the car park will remain closed although there is street parking nearby. We hope this will encourage people to stay local and walk or cycle to their destinations as requested by the Government. This decision will be reviewed regularly in line with Government advice.
Sandford Field remains open and will do so unless gatherings of large quantities of people pose a risk to others in which case this decision may be reviewed.
The Trustees are doing their best to provide suitable and safe opportunities for exercise for the people of Bampton in these troubling times. We hope you will use our facilities safely and respect social distancing guidance while you are there; only exercise with up to one person from outside your household and avoid touching surfaces where possible.
At this point we would like to mention the CEMETERY. The regulations have not changed so it will remain unlocked. However, there has been an increase of dog faeces which spreads to the graves and memorials when the grass is cut. We believe this is disrespectful and if dog waste continues to be a problem we may have to consider banning dogs from the cemetery.
Dix Pit household waste recycling centre will re-open from next Monday, 18 May. However, there are shorter opening times and access restrictions due to rules on social distancing so if you can avoid a trip there, please do so.
