Relentless Forward Motion

It’s not always about how fast you get there. It’s the courage to continue that counts.

Thought twice before posting this first photo, but you’ll soon see it all unfold tomorrow night on S4C]] (subtitled @ 8pm) and later on .

Did the voice over yesterday on yesterday. It’s a wonderful story of highs and lows (an emotional watch for me) but I think it’s important to show that it’s not all about finishing lines and medals.

Here on the last climb of the 111 mile bike section, I wanted the ground to swallow me up; for the cameras to disappear. I desperately wanted to press restart and start the race again the following week. By this point I had to use my right hand to change my left hand gears because of the nerve damage (cyclist palsy) in my left hand. And when the rain arrived it didn’t help the situation especially when I need to quickly change gears on the climbs. I was frustrated, felt ill , disappointed especially as I love the climbs and descents.

But if II keep waiting for that perfect day to start a race, then I’ll be waiting a long long time. You’ve just got to grab that opportunity and take the rough with the smooth. No regrets.

South Cerney Duck Race has been a highlight of the Cotswold sporting calendar for many years, raising huge amounts of money for local charities. This year due to current lockdown restrictions it can no longer take place. However, thanks to local pub .sc there will still be a virtual duck race - the South Cerney Duck Race 'Lockdown Edition'. Ducks are available to buy now via The Royal Oak and South Cerney Stores

Last minute ducks can also be purchased on the day as the duck mobile will be travelling through South Cerney with social distanced selling.
