The UN declared July 7th World Kiswahili Day ..
2022 MTM launched the first World Kiswahili Day event outside the UN at the River Room of the House of Lords, London.
The event was facilitated by the late Lord Mohammed Altaf Sheikh and hosted by Baroness Sandy Verma.
H.E Asha-Rose Migiro the High Commissioner of the United Republic of Tanzania was chief guest.
Many organisations were given a platform to speak and create awareness of the beautiful language.

The WKD Road Show 2024 Kicks-Off ....World Kiswahili Day On The Road embarked on its inaugural journey with great excitement, setting its first destination at the United Republic of Tanzania High Commission in London. Located just a stone’s throw from the prestigious London Marriott Grosvenor Square, where the Glittering Gala Swahili Evening will be held, the Tanzania High Commission London provided a fitting backdrop for this momentous occasion.
In the esteemed presence of His Excellency Mbelwa Brighton Kairuki, the High Commissioner of Tanzania to the UK, the atmosphere was imbued with significance and anticipation. Engaging with Balozi Kairuki was a true honour, and we were thrilled to extend to him the official invitation to the upcoming World Kiswahili Day event.
Scheduled to unfold on July 6th at the illustrious London Marriott Grosvenor Square, the event promises to be a jubilant celebration of Kiswahili language and culture.
As we presented our publications – Mast The Magazine and announced the launch of our new publication – Sema Jambo The Magazine, slated for release this July, the excitement only grew.
This meeting not only symbolised a sharing of knowledge but also reinforced our commitment to fostering unity among diverse communities through language and culture

July 6th, 2023: World Kiswahili Day Celebration
Returning to the esteemed River Room, this event was hosted by the Rt. Hon. Lord Boateng, with H.E. the High Commissioner of Kenya, Manoah Esipisu, as the chief guest.

The evening showcased a vibrant cultural celebration, with live performances by young taarab maestro Brother Nassir from Mombasa, Kenya, and the talented Namite Selvaggi of Italian and Tanzanian heritage. Key Note Speaker was legendary Broadcaster Ahmed Rajab- a pioneering BBC Swahili Service Broadcaster, London.
It was a gathering of the East & Central African diaspora, celebrating the richness of Swahili culture and heritage.
