The third video for CATS in SPACE's Kickstart the Sun album needed something adventurous and cinematic. A big powerful ballad and a killer duet with Julie Maguire from Space Elevator was begging for something special.

Se we put everyone in a spaceship and pressed launch. The performances made this video an absolute joy and never leaves a dry eye in its wake.

We're very proud of this one at Carriage Return.

The final video for the Black Tide album was notable for several reasons. it was shot before the previous single’s video was fully edited, it required all White Skies members to finally meet and play in the same room and it had to be impactful yet simple. The fact the first time the band all met was here on their 3rd video and an hour before we started shooting really shows on Emily and there's a simple magic about the video that tells you how much inter-artist chemistry is an invaluable thing in video production.

The second video from the Black Tide album for White Skies was originally intended to be a location shoot but logistics dictated at the last minute that it became another green screen project. And by the time we were finished, we all agreed that it was definitely a good thing! One Step Forward; a visual feast of a video for a song which, on the surface, might seem like a great feel good anthem but which, underneath, has a serious message about climate change.

There's so much to talk about regarding the making of CATS in SPACE's Poke The Witch video that it actually merits a documentary all of it's own..... watch this space!

Shot entirely on green screen and in a real dolls house, set up in the corner of our studio for a full 2 months, this was a big challenge! If we started to tell the story behind it it would take hours so enjoy a great classic rock supergroup and a real life witch in a doll's house...... yes really!

Our relationship with Mick White continued this year at a rapid rate. We were asked to get involved in mick's White Skies project with former Ya Ya guitarist Ray Callcut and former Dante Fox keys player Pete Lakin. Their deal with Pride and Joy records dictated we recorded and produced 3 high-quality music videos in just over 8 weeks..... challenge accepted!

First up (and a firm favourite in our books) is What Do You Know About Love, the first single from the Black Tide album.

TRIVIA: Mick, Ray and Pete were shot in a studio in Melton Mowbray UK. Bass player Rob Naylor and drummer Daz Lamberton were drafted in at the 11th hour and were shot separately in Greater Manchester. Not only had half the band not met the other half, they wouldn't meet face to face for another 2 videos!

It's been a while since we shared anything..... we've been busy! So over the next few days we'll highlight a few of the videos we've been involved in lately.

Our relationship with CATS in SPACE continued this summer with their second single from the Kickstart the Sun album, Teenage Millionaires. As straight down the line rocker shot in a day and once again, at Hive Studios with their green screen setup.

Shot on Panasonic GH5 with a couple of Sigma lenses, we kept it simple and straight to the point!

Another rocker of a video under our belts! Another cracker for the unstopable Mick White!

Shot over a couple of days in February 2022 this was a joy to film. Great band with a great vibe. The venue suited what we wanted to do too and it all came together nice and easy!

The video is already gaining a lot of traction in Europe and the UK so I think it's time to start planning another one! 😏🙌

CATS in SPACE are a bit of a supergroup to be fair. Each of their members have a legacy in rock n roll that would be the envy of anyone who ever picked up an instrument. But this band is no retrospective look at their collective achievements. Several albums in, they've carved out a niche that has them headlining gigs and festivals all over the UK and Europe so when they asked Carriage Return to create their 2021 Christmas Single promo, it was grabbed enthusiastically, with both hands!

A reworking of Greg Lake's absolute classic, I Believe In Father Christmas was the tune and we needed a location and shooting style which did justice to the track but was as fresh as their take on it.

Shot in one short day on the trusty Panasonic GH5 (once again).

Another gem from the CR stable in 2021!

The connections between Mick White Vocalist and Carriage Return goes back to the 1980s but we've never made any videos together in all that time. So armed with a green screen, a borrowed car, some library footage and a handful of ideas we managed to nail this tune down with a message that is super current too.

Covid restrictions have made this the year of the music video for Carriage Return and that's something to be happy about. Nothing is as much fun as turning up with a pile of pro-sumer gear and busking it until you have a knockout video!

Shot on location in a Kent house undergoing renovation work, this was a hoot to film. Great band live and great on camera too! This seems so long ago now but still remains a highlight for CR in the last 12 months or so.

As usual, shot on the trusty Panasonic G5 and little else!

Sometimes you have to leave melodic hard rock to the experts. If you like your tunes hook-laden and lots of current stuff leaves you yearning for the days of the big radio hits, then fill yer boots with this one.

Had a total hoot making this video in lockdown. We had limited budget and when the restrictions were briefly eased, we nailed down a venue with a video wall (thank you Northern productions in Sunderland!) bashed together some video wall content and set off with a single camera a bag of hopeium.

It looks great IMHO. I doubt the guys will thank me for calling them 'veterans' but these guys knew what they wanted so we cracked on for a few hours and got it made. A few edititng sessions later and here it is. It looks exactly like we wanted it to!
Makes me grin watching it! 🙌

This video documents the creation of one of Ruth Moilliet's sculpture pieces from inception to delivery. Entitled Three Leaf Sculpture, the work forms part of the ROCLA Art Project in Milton Keynes and is a permanent display alongside other artists on this urban art trail.

As always, Ruth's works is a pleasure to film and seeing the evolution from inception to install was illuminating and enjoyable.

One of my favourite pieces of 2018.

Another instalment in the JG TV series with top BTCC driver Jack Goff and the WIX Racing with Eurotech team. This time we attend rounds 4 to 6 at the fabulous Donington Park circuit for more behind the scenes fun and insight.

We trial a new format on Jack and take a look at the paddock at night, there's the regular Steve Predicts feature, qualifying and all the garage action from Sunday's 3 races.

As usual the trust combination of the Panasonic GH4, the Rode Video Mic and Zhiyun Crane get a battering. Lots of shaky shots because it was so so cold we shivered all day!
